I try to find the ceiling for overclocking and then drop it down a bit from there. I would hate for you to play a game for a couple hours and then see smoke coming from your case!

I was really trying hard to wait for this card but Nvidia's plodding product launch is just too much for me. I have one of those Gateway X800XT cards on order right now and if it ships next week then I am happy. If they pull some garbage on me and put it on backorder then I will probably cancel that order and just wait for one of the high end cards to pop up in a brick and mortar.

Either card is good if you ask me - fanboys need not bother flaming me. I am bad about upgrading video cards so I will probably re-evaluate both camps at the end of the year when they release their inevitable refreshes. Besides, I got a X800 Pro in my PC right now as a lease until I get my new card and sell this one to my friend.

Enjoy your card!

Im curious as to whether it fixes my ut2004 problem..

also, the fan noise, it is VERY loud when booting windows.. But as soon as windows loads, and the driver kicks in, its not too bad. Still louder than my 9800 Pro, but not by alot.

Does the fan get loud again when you play a game?

Jakup do you notice a difference in gameplay OC'd versus stock? I'm doubting it. :P I'd knock that sucker back down to stock and enjoy a long life of it! I guess I don't understand overclocking anymore. Back when you could OC an SL2W8 PII350 to 450MHz it made a huge difference, but these days?

Actually it doesnt make a noticable difference.. I get a couple more marks in 3dmark though. Right now Im just gonna leave it at 450/1.2ghz... that is the 6800 Ultra Extreme Level.

Also, moving down to the 60.85 drivers fixed my problem in ut2004!

and no, the fan speed stays low while gaming... Im not sure if the speed kicks up if it gets hotter, it hasnt yet.

Nice!

Overclocking usually doesn't make a big difference until you start running high resolutions with some AA turned on, which I noticed playing Far Cry on my X800 Pro anyway. That is where game specific profiles come in handy - only overclocking the card when you really need it to cut down on excessive wear and tear on the card.

1600x1200 No AA No AF

2004-06-04 08:28:15 - FarCry
Frames: 1835 - Time: 46365ms - Avg: 39.577 - Min: 26 - Max: 70

I really hope nVidias new drivers boost farcry performance...

Ah, I use that to check my framerates in game but never set it up for that. I did find a benchmark utility called benchemall that is pretty good. I figure if these new cards can handle Far Cry they should have no problems with games like Half Life 2, Stalker, and Doom 3.
