I am 99% sure it's beacause everything is bump mapped and there are stencil shadows galore. This is all pretty much the same tech that Doom 3 has been pimping, so if you wanna get a feel for it check the game out.

BTW game runs fine on my 9800 non pro 800x600 4X AA. I think you guys are expecting too much performance for something that's all bump mapped + stencil shadows, but what do I know...

Thats a good sign ! .. because with my 5950/9800XT the performance hit is great when the flashlight is turned ON & can be easily noticed . thats why i dont use it in Pk unless its nessesry .

Generally, patches are used to fix problems and introduce new features and a SM3.0 path would probably be considered a new feature.

I know. My point was, if they want to add 3.0 support(which they will according to nvidia's marketing team), they have to port their engine to DX9 and then add sm3.0 support to the shaders. Isn't this a lot of work for a patch to support the 6800 in a better way?

They may already of had DX9 in the engine, but just needed a little more tuning to get it to work correctly... dunno..heh

Oh, and last night I wanted to see just how far the ram on my 6800U would go.. it would not go past 1.3ghz. I think I may squeeze a little more out of the core though...

According to nvidia zero effort to make existing 2.0 work with 3.0 you just simply run it under 3.0 and it works.

And you gain speed as a result. This is according to nvidia employee interview a bit back about sm 3.0 and 2.0.

So I would expect a game patch to do it. Since its that simple.

Care to share the link to the NVIDIA employee interview that you refer to? Few things in life are actually this easy when it comes down to it.

it's also here

http://www.nvnews.net/cgi-bin/archiv...ry=1&view=5-04

toward the middle.

"David Kirk: Anything that can be programmed in PS 2.0 just runs in PS 3.0 with no changes. It just runs faster, and looks better. Anything that can be programmed in PS 3.0 can be converted into multipass versions for PS 2.0. It just runs more slowly and looks less good."
