Default hang up problems: update (my card broken?)

Okay, I was playing GTA3 today in windows, and that game ALSO hangs up every once in a while. It's not as often as when I'm playing ut2003 in Linux, but it still happens. So, is there some sort of incompatibility between my card and my motherboard? I tried switching the voltage under the bios, but that didn't seem to do anything.

Also, I do have a loud fan in my box. but I'm not sure which of the 3 (cpu, bios, vid card) it could be. Could the vid card chip be overheating and not working right?

My system is:
P4 2.6gh
512mb Ram
MDK10 w/ 2.63-7 kernel
PNY Ti4200 64mb agp card
Abit IC7 motherboard.

thanks. !!

Just for the record, I have the same problem: The system hangs out every 20 seconds for increasingly longer periods of time in both windows and Linux. OpenGL and Direct3D games are both affected as well. And yes, I'm also thinking this is hardware problem but I've done some more research:

I tried another card (Ti4600) with my mobo (nforce2) and the problem dissapeared.
I tried the suspect card (5900 NU) with another mobo (SIS) and the problem reappeared.

But it only happens with newer drivers (46.20 and later in linux and 50ish and later in windows).

420 watts in my case. I even tried disconnecting everything but the primary HDD and the problem persisted. I could get a 500 watt PSU but I'm not very confident that would solve my problem.
Do you have any experience about it? If you say yes, I'll give it a go.

My power supply is only a 300w. I'm gonna go get a new card today and maybe a 350w ps. I think I pissed off my computer last night. I pulled the card out to try and re-seat it, but I can't seem to get it back in straight. I'll keep you updated.

Okay, I went out and got a FX5500. Initially, when I installed it, and changed some bios settings (to the specs listed in the new manual) things were screwy. I didn't have any fonts and I didn't have a bootup screen after lilo. I changed the PCI Latency back down to 32 (instead of the reccomended 128) and now everything works fine. I can play my games in Linux, hi-res and i've not had any hang up problems. I hope this helps someone else.
