Default Display problem : AGP image is distorted, but PCI is fine

In summary, I cannot get the AGP to work on my Linux system. I need to disable AGP in order for X to work.

THE PROBLEM

When I enable AGP in X's configuration (Option "NvAGP" "1" or "2"), I can
start X but the screen is garbled. The problem is not present with "NvAGP"
set to "0".

What I mean with "garbled" is that the image is stretched horizontally by a
factor of 2. I will try to explain it visually :

Normally :

Code:

     column
      123456789
row 1 xxxxxxxxx x : a pixel
    2 xxxxxxxxx
    3 xxxxxxxxx
With AGP on my system :

Code:
      column
      1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
row 1 x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x x. : pixels are displayed on two columns
    2 x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x
    3 x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x.x
Also, the screen looks like it's in 16 colors, or maybe 256 colors with a very
bad color map. And, curiously, the cursor is displayed correctly. Also, I can
interract with widgets on the screen at the place where they are supposed to be.

Is there something I can do to use AGP?

SYSTEM INFORMATION

Patch the driver with the www.minion.de patch and give it another shot. (why? VIA support is tweaked and may just work)

Tried the mentionned patch above. Didn't help...

I am running with the patched module right now, but in PCI mode. AGP mode is still as weird as before.

But I am still wondering if I have broken hardware in my motherboard. I find the results of lspci very strange (see this post).

maybe you should try a bios upgrade for your motherboard. I didn't read your logs but usually it is a bios problem that you can solve with the firmware upgrade.

good luck

Wink Re: AGP image is distorted, but PCI is fine

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's one of the first thing I tried before posting this thread : I upgraded my motherboard's BIOS to the latest available. I did it too for my NVidia card, but it already had the latest BIOS installed.
