Some of you have already seen these screenshots, but worth seeing again.

And the most amazing part of all... The bricks in CATACOMBS are actually flat textures. They sure don't look that way do they? Its magic

Well I did read that Crytek was going to add virtual displacement mapping to the game on the Far Cry forums. HDR can be done by both ATI and Nvidia so it will be interesting to see if they patch the game so both cards can use the effects to varying degrees.
I also think the lighting looks cool but maybe a bit overdone, similar to how lens flare was overused in games when it became a big thing a few years ago. |

You cannot fake the offset mapping in thoughs pics like you can the HDR (someone in the Guru3D forums was saying that the HDR was faked using photoshop). I can't wait for DX9.0c and my 6800 to arrive!

It must be noted that the level of light could be manipulated by the author in this case, so the amount of "glowiness" will likely be different in the final product.

In general I like them.
I hope features like these are used with taste and restraint. If every game starts to look like a fuzzy flash back scene in a movie, or when a fellow dies and goes to heaven, it will be too much. I do like 4,5,6 and 7(counting from the top) the best. I loathe shot 8, that is type of overdone dream look I am against.

Well I saw the SM3.0 effects in action at E3... and I didn't see any of these crazy lighting effects...

Maybe that explains why the patch is taking too long - maybe the developers bit off more than they can chew so to speak.
