Thanks.
I patched 5336 and it compiled fine.
My problem is fixed.

It's now working with my GeForce Fx 5200 Ultra, running dual monitors.

First of all thanks for the info guys, just one question to make my self fully confident.

I'm going to be installing Slackware 10 tonight, and I beleive I can tell it to use 2.6.7 on Installation (from the /test folder ?).

Once its installed, I can make menuconfig say "N" to 4k Stacks, re-compile and install the nVidia drivers.

Once installed I'll need to edit my X.org config - is it just a case of putting in "nvidia" instead of vesa like XF86 ?

Many Thanks,

Karl.

You need to disable the 4KSTACKS and the REGPARM options.
And yes, once you've finished building the new kernel, donwload the patched driver from minion.de, install it and then change the driver to nvidia.

Cheers,

I need to write back here and state that 5336 works for me now under 2.6.7. This is on a Debian/Sid system. It works with/without the patches from http://www.minion.de/. I am not sure what caused things to work now. It could have been using the --uninstall and then a clean install of 5328, or it may have even been a recent update to XFree86-4.3 from Debian/Sid. Whatever the cause, the result is a working nvidia card with my system.

Wow, what a pain the last few weeks...

Hi there,

I'm having some trouble with NVIDIA 5536 driver under 2.6.7-ck1,

The system seems to be runnin gok at the moment though i have not tried any 3D but dmesg is full of oops's related to the nvidia driver.

I have 4k stack option disabled also.

The system is an AMD Athlon Xp on a Asus A7N8X-VM so has both NVIDIA NFORCE2 AGP and NVIDA GForce 4 GPU.

These types of output appear throuout the dmesg output:

Whoops ! Spoke too soon! I must have had some latent memory or libraries hanging around. My machine hung on a bad Java app, so it required a reboot. After the reboot, 5336 was back to it's old ways as I have posted here before. So, I reinstall the patched 5328 and I am back to a working system. In summary, I cannot use 5336 with 2.6.7. I have to use the patched, older version (5328).

I am reading loads of people here resolving their respective problems with the latest 5336 drivers. I'm an unfortunate soul who installed the x86_64 version of Fedora Core 2. Seing as the only AMD64 drivers that NVidia have released are the 5332 version (which don't support kernel 2.6.5 or above, my question is: is there anything I can do to get drivers? Or do I just wait for NVidia to get their asses in gear? Any patches out there to help me?? Even any news on when new drivers are coming out? Everything I've found on this forum relates to the 32-bit drivers.

Kev

kevpatts,
Try the patches at http://www.minion.de/ - I've had sucess with 2.6.6 and the x86_64 patches on a Tyan mobo.

Just wanted to say that recompiling 2.6.7 with the use of 8k stacks rather than 4k fixed my nvidia problems - thanks to people for posting that suggestion, very much appreciated.

I looked at the stuff at minion.de, I downloaded and tried to install it. Can you tell me what the difference is in doing the first step 1 & 2, the second step 1 & 2 and the third step 1 & 2 in this file is? I tried the first and second set of 1 & 2 steps. the first had absolutely no effect (am I supposed to alter my xorg.conf file after doing this? it doesn't say). the second gave me errors when I patched the installation (using: patch -p1 < ../../../../NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-5332-2.6.diff) (this was after using the .pkg# file). The Makefile patches didn't work, but the patches to the other files (Makefile.nvidia, etc) did work. When I tried making a .run file it wouldn't compile.

I noticed that the 5332 drivers from NVIDIA I downloaded DO have code for 2.6.x kernels so I tried installing the original. it installed fine but when I changed xorg.conf (fedora core 2) to the "nvidia" setting, X wouldn't run (didn't crash, just gave errors).

can anyone help me?

Kev

by the way I'm using an x86_64 machine, thats why I gotta use 5332.
