here it goes,
nvidia chose not to open their drivers. That descision protects nvidia and i respect it, though there could be more support if the drivers were open. I also believe that a little more feedback on the boards from nvidia staff would be nice. At least a "we acknowlege the prob and working to fix it" kind of answer. And dude, don't expect an answer from nvidia-bugs.. they may have hundrends of e-mails every day. That's all (looking forward to the next release(without the flicker prob). |

Yep, same here - occasional flicker + screen goes blank now and then as before
Damn, I hoped they would have actually worked on this problem... |

hmmm. Late this evening I'll try to install 6229 - and I'm not optimist. I'll post the results (?) tomorrow....
By the way, sm0ke, it's interesting how you're tho ONLY person who did'nt receive an answer from Zander in 6229 thread ...have you tried to send some file to nvidia-bugs@nvidia.org? ![]() |

Haven't seen a single flicker in 2 days - previously was seeing them every few minutes - still early days to be fully sure but it is looking good!
Current setup: GeForce FX Go5700 (Acer Aspire 1714SMi) Debian Sarge Kernel 2.6.8-1-686-smp XFree86 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 NVidia Driver 6629 All above default settings and stock kernel from Debian. Only changes to X Config = Added 'Driver "nvidia"' & rem'd 'Load "GLcore"', 'Load "dri"'. Previous setup SUSE 9.1 Kernel 2.6.5-7.95.i586 XFree86 4.3.99 Again default configs. Unfortunately changed Distro and driver at the same time so cannot make any comment on whether I would have seen the same results in SUSE. Cheers Stoo. |

!!!
I'LL BE DAMNED IF IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!! Despite all my pessimistic prediction, it seems that 6229 works fine without flickers. I'm running a Debian Sarge, so I could guess that DS + 6229 is really the right mixture as stoo said... sorry for the others here still having the problem. I'm not so sure that nVidia's staff did fix the bug knowing they were doing it, as in fact there's no mention of it in the changelog, but if an accidental solution seems to work... well, it won't be me to complain!!! (Anyway, 6229 effectively works better, DooM3 framerates now are better than Window$ one.) so, thanks nvidia from me, hoping that you fix the bug also for the poor guys in this forum yet experiencing this insufferable flicker (good luck). |

Sadly this problem still persists on my Debian box with the latest 6629 drivers.
However things got a bit better with this new release, I only see the flicker after coming out of a game and it usually goes away if I do a quick resolution change using ctrl + alt + -. I can't believe that after all this time and all these reports, NVIDIA still chooses to ignore the problem, not even a 'yes, we've read the thread' *sigh* NVIDIA ![]() |

OK.. After a little longer usage I am forced to agree things have improved. However I still suffer from the random screen blanking problem. The screen just turns off in mid use roughly 10-20 mins after booting... Anyone else have this problem still ?
However, it is nice to see reports of these drivers working as well as windoze... As much as I am annoyed with this problem, if is clear nvidia does care about linux to some degree, unlike some other vendors... |

My flickering problem ist gone since I use the XOrg server instead of XFree. Had that damn flicker bug at my notebook for a very long time. (VGA chip is FX 5700 go)
I first noticed it when updating my Mandrake 10.0 to 10.1C. Now I'm using MDK 10.1 official, works fine without any flicker! Maybe it's a bug with the Xserver not an Nvidia problem? I tried 61.11 and 62.29 both don't flicker with the XOrg server! Greetings from germany, Kai |
