Have you tried timing the intervals between the flashes? I found that my laptop was going zippy every 7 1/2 minutes. But it seems to have gone now with the installation of the latest drivers.

Hi u guys!
I've read all this thread and i would like to share with u my experince with NV products. I have a problem very similar to urs but still different. I have Vanta 8MB video card. I think the best description is that the picture is not stable, and it's that way all the time when there's some activity (flash image or cursor moving". So it's not as u say "random flickering" on sime intervals. It just like the picture is "shaking" slightly. Sometimes it's difficult even to notice but knowint that the problem is there is annoying. I have this problem using ANY driver( any nvidia driver, nv, VESA). I installed a very old version of OpenLinux(Using XFree86 3, just for experiment) and i think it was fine there. However that's not of any use. Under Windows98 it's working fine. I would appreciate any help and even s.o. saying that he has encountered the same problem. It's creepy being the only one.

Hello,
I don t have the flicker during startup and normal use, but each time I shut down the computer there is a terrible flicker. This only happens with my nVidia card (FX5200).
I have added the following lines to my xorg.cong:
Option "NvAGP" "1"
Option "TwinView" "0"
but it does not help.
I am using Mandrake 10.1.

Could anyone please help?
Thank you.

I have updated from driver 6111 to driver 6629 and now the problem seems to be gone, as well as some frequent crashes I was having with kde.

Maybe this has been discussed already -- I just stumbled upon this thread and thought I would add my experiences...

I had flicker problems running redhat 9 w/ 5950 ultra cards and whatever drivers were current in Nov. 2003.

I was able to make the flicker problem go away by switching from the Redhat default window managaer/desktop environment (Gnome/Enlightenment/Sawfish whatever it is) to a stripped down program (icewm or blackbox). I can't be sure that I didn't inadvertantly make some other changes, but as far as I know switching the window manager made the problem go away.

I have the problem on my zd7000 also. I tried all the ideas found here and elsewhere, none worked. Finally I saw a suggestion to enter a screen geometry that was less that 1024x768,
then return to 1440x900 (ie, CNTL-ALT-KP_Subtract, CNTL-ALT-KP_Add). Added
a 800x600 modeline, the tried the size flip-flop, and it WORKED!

So now I automate it with .xinitrc:

# go lores then back for flicker-free display:
xvkbd -text "\C\A\[KP_Subtract]\C\A\[KP_Add]"

I also am running @ 1680x1050 with this XF86Config:

HorizSync 30-90
VertRefresh 50-100
ModeLine "1440x900" 97.54 1440 1472 1840 1872 900 919 927 946
Modeline "1680x1050" 147.14 1680 1784 1968 2256 1050 1051 1054 1087

SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1680x1050" "1440x900" "800x600"

As explained earlier I automate it by setting the frequency in the KDE control center.

However, now I enabled DPMS to turn off the screen when idle (for 15 min) but when the screen comes back after power-save, the flickering is back. Arrrgh!

Oh, well - I'm still on old drivers "5336" and the even older XFree86 4.3 - so I guess that I'll try upgrading before I get too depressed.
