Default New drivers out on august/september | ignore this thread

I've been told that the new nvidia drivers will come out during august/september.

The source is pretty reliable, that... sucks

Hmm, I wounder if nvidia can make it a year without a driver release for us Linux users, it's a good job the driver is spot on for me.

I seriously hope your source is wrong!

Don't know about x86, but the AMD64 drivers are really broken.
According to zander, the new AMD64 drivers (61xx) should be out very soon, with 32bit compatibility (in pkg2), and they should fix all currently known bugs (the performance problems as well as the bug that makes the system crash from time to time). And, according to Softimage, x86 61xx drivers should be out very soon, too. Those are the only drivers certified for the recently released XSI 4 on Linux, if they wouldn't be released very soon, Softimage would have certified 5336 instead...

August/September could be a great month. Highly overdue album from The Prodigy will be released as well as highly overdue amd64 driver updates from Nvidia.

Looking forward to August... Although it will be more like Setember Oh well... As long as the drivers work well when they are released, and there is enough to warrant this extended period, I do not mind. So... around 2 months and 8 days to go, and counting

It looks like LH.o is going to have a review this week with (?beta?) fresh drivers, so maybe we'll see some comments about them by Augustus.

You gotta be fscking kidding me...

*sigh*

I should have know better. I have a lot of experience dealing with crappy Linux support but NVIDIA has earned itself the blue ribbon.

You'd regret that decision, do you even know how bad ATI Linux drivers are. I've seen a 9800 Pro run slower than a GeForce 5200 Ultra in Linux.

I second the above.
Even without the 4K/REGPARM, 2.6.7 was unstable on all the nVidia machine I tested it on (both Single and Dual CPUs, Intel and AMD.)
Plus, ut2k4 performance under Linux leaves much to be desired.
Said it before, say it again, I rather have nVidia release stable, fast performing drivers in August, then have them release POS drives now. Even if there's no out of the box Fedora Core 2 support.

Cheers,
Gilboa
