<elektronisch-> augest/sept, hum ya thats what i heard
<zander> elektronisch-: no

He's a pretty credible source. Idunno if he is a dev or not but he is associated with them on freenode. He also said this month will be the release date.

Release candidate 1 was released yesterday to beta program participants. Primary purpose of the drivers is to add PCIe support.

I'd hoped for more performance centric release... (let alone regparm and 4Ks...)

Cheers,

Does this release candidate contain a fix for the amd64-32 issue? Is there any way I can get my hands on this beta?

I believe it does but, I'll let you read it for yourself. Here's the changlog from the driver. Please do not ask me for a copy of the driver as that would violate the agreement my company has with Nvidia.

* Added support for GLSL (OpenGL Shading Language).

* Added support for GL_EXT_pixel_buffer_object.

* Added support for 4kstack kernels.

* Added support for ACPI.

* Added support for PCI-Express.

* Added configuration utility "nvidia-settings"; see the user guide
installed here:

/usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/nvidia-settings-user-guide.txt

for details.

* Added support for running 32bit OpenGL applications on 64bit AMD64
Linux installations.

* Fixed problem that prevented 32bit kernel driver from running on
certain AMD64 CPUs.

* Added a new Xv adaptor on GeForce4 and GeForceFX which uses the
3D engine to do Xv PutImage requests. This allows XvMC to operate
when the video overlay is not available (such as in TwinView).
XvMC still uses the overlay by default, when available. A new
XF86Config option "XvmcUsesTextures" has been added to force
usage of the 3D engine for XvMCPutSurface even when overlays are
available.

* Added a shell script "nvidia-bug-report.sh" that gathers
system configuration information into a log file; the resulting
log file (nvidia-bug-report.log) should be included when reporting
bugs to NVIDIA.

Hope that helps to answer some of the questions.

That's great, it looks like it's fixed. How long, for nvidia linux drivers, does it usually take to progress from first release candidate to full release?

Finally... some real info... thanx for that...

BTW: do you know if the nvidia 6800 (aka NV40) is supported? And with the addition of GLSL the GL version string becomes 1.5? That whould be really cool since I'm thinking to upgrade as soon as there are linux drivers for it...

--- snip ---
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: Quadro FX 3000/AGP/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 1.5.1 NVIDIA 61.xx
--- snip ---

And yes, NV40 is supported.
PS: Don't ask me, I don't have a redistributable version of the drivers, and our admin won't give me the installer... :-(

Scotty_Boy : Any chance if you can confirm whether or not
Interlaced modes are supported in the beta? I've been watching promises
of "next version" support for a while and REALLY am hoping that this latest driver will Support Overscan, Interlaced output AND vsync.
