Well there havent been any changes to the AA, Testing every driver revision isnt needed.

So as far as I get it, my best AA/AF settings would be 4xRGMS and 8xAF (And whay not 16xAF?)? (AA through RivaTuner, AF through nVidia's driver). If I will get SLI, I should set it to 16x(S)AA and 16xAF?

I play HL2, Doom3, Farcry, RtCW, CoD, BF/1942/V, UT2004 and many more...
(Ofcourse I unchecked the "Aplication Controllerd" box, and deleted all the lines on my various game configs that sets the AA/AF... )

Thanks in advance!

Why 4xOGMS and 4xRGMS creat shimmering ??
it make me angry because i cant use 4xs, its too slow, and 2X normal is not enough dealiased.
Unfortunaly, 4x 9 tap is crappy , because blurry texture.

my only solution is 4x RGMS/OGMS but i cant USE , these ****ing shimering sucks !

in many game , shimering is here. In fact, i never saw a game without shimmering with these 2 mode...

just my 2 cents.

shimmering is not cuased by AA. AFAIK it has more to do with way texture is manipulated or clamped or whatever.

okay , so i just retest all mode .
4xOGMS works...witout shimmering .
but no way for 4xRGMS . (<--- the best for vertical AND horizontal).
So, i will play SWG with OGMS 4X , but i would like to get same smooth game in new 8x mode... the new 8x ROCKS ALL in image quality !!
i could probably play in 1024 x 768 ...

The shimmering you are seeing is unrelated to anti aliasing. As Muya has pointed out. It's a Level of Detail issue for mip mapping.

really ?
i doubt of that ... I tested consecutivly, in same hour, ALL FSAA mode.
in few games...

and verdict is here. switch to 4xXXXX -> shimering , return to 2x or 2x+2x --> no more crappy stuff.

get the fact ... temporal AA for get more performance ???

I am sure alot of you know. 4x Gamma corrected Anti Aliasing has been present in many of the 7x.xx drivers. I can confirm it works in the 71.80 and up. But I am pretty sure it will work in most. It does invoke a performance hit compared to normal 4x ((But its not that bad either)). So if you miss ATI's 4xAA implementation its definately work checking out as some people like Gamma Corrected Anti Aliasing.

4x OGMS is no longer working as far as I can tell in the 7x.xx drivers and up. If anyone knows the key to enable it. Let me know. I cant find it.

Anyway. I updated the investigation to include this. Which will unlock Gamma Corrected Anti Aliasing.

Code:
[ForceWareFSAAModes]
FSAAMode01 = 2 x 1
FSAAMode02 = 1 x 2
FSAAMode05 = 2 x 2
FSAAMode0E = 2x
FSAAMode0F = Quincunx
FSAAMode10 = 4x RGMS
FSAAMode12 = 4x 9-tap
FSAAMode13 = 4xS
FSAAMode17 = 12x
FSAAMode19 = Old 8x
FSAAMode1A = 16x Hybrid
FSAAMode16 = Old 6x (D3d)
FSAAMode18 = New 8x
FSAAMode1B = 4x Gamma Corrected
FSAAMode0D = 16x OGSS

I dont care what anyone says. My X800XT PE looks LOADS better than my 6800GT. There were a lot of little things that bothered the SH*T out of me with that GT. Things in the distance just didn't get AA'd at all! This showed up a lot in UT2k4 and Half Life 2. Didn't notice it much in Doom 3 since it was so dark. Another thing that bothered me was that shimmering problem...did NV fix this w/ the new drivers? What about the stuttering problem on nForce3 chipsets?

I have the DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb and I must be lucky cause I have not experienced the shimmering problem or any stuttering with the 6800GT. The only stuttering I have ran in to lately was the sound bug in HL2 on an Intel board with a 6600 vanilla. Then it was only in a couple of places.
