Official NVIDIA Linux control panel feedback thread

The 6106 driver, for x86 and x86-64, includes the nvidia-settings
gui configuration utility. Just run `nvidia-settings` once you
have the driver installed and have X running.

A brief user guide is available here:

nvidia-settings uses the NV-CONTROL X extension to communicate with
the X server. nvidia-settings is GPL.

Details on the NV-CONTROL X extension, as well as source code to

nvidia-settings gives error in subsequent runs.
ERROR: Cannot open display 'Alegrias:0.0'.

don't run this in the console, or make sure you are not running it from a switched-user (su username) environment. my best suggestion is to go to K > run command then type in nvidia-settings.

there's an equivalent in gnome, but i don't remember how. if you run gnome, or still can't get it to work, post back.

I wanted to set it up so that my settings were automatically restored on login. However, nvidia-settings has trouble reading the ~/.nvidia-settings-rc

When I run 'nvidia-settings --load-config-only' either in my script or manually, I get this error:

ERROR: Error parsing configuration file '/home/henrik/.nvidia-settings-rc' on
line 32: '0/RedBrightness=0.014706' (Trailing garbage).

If I try commenting out that line it just reacts the same to the next one, and the ones following.

nvidia-setting connection to host fixed. compile from source and everything works, even got temperature readings and loads up fast now.

Frukfat yes i had that problem also.
You have started the nvidia-settings for the first time with console.
try deleting the nvidia-settings-rc file.

Then start nvidia-settings outside the console.
And add the lines :nvidia-settings --load-config-only in your .bash file.

If you change the Antialiasing Settings slider, then uncheck the Override Application Setting checkbox, it does not turn off the setting you made in the slider. This is contrary to what should happen. Unchecking that checkbox should reset the slider (and ENV variable) to Off.

The same applies to the Anisotropic Filtering slider.

Superb utils, though it doesn't have a temperature monitor for my GeForceFX 5600 (Asus VideoSuite).

Minor remark: where can I find the temperature readings ?

Is it possible to add functionality like:
- Twinview settings (uh, ok this one is already on the to-do list).
- AGP settings (i.e. enable/disable Fast Write, AGP rate and SBA) ?

For now, many thanx, great drivers & great tools !
