Default Slow performance with 6106

I installed the new release but the performance is still very bad. My FX5200 performs much worse than a Geforce2 ti.

00:57 rk@nanny:~$ glxgears
1536 frames in 5.0 seconds = 307.200 FPS
1831 frames in 5.0 seconds = 366.200 FPS

Any hints?

Logfile didn't upload. Here's the glx-part:

Hi,

>Load "record"

kill that!

>Option "UseFBDev" "true"

and what is THAT nightmare for?
Are you using rivafb?
If yes, hit yourself and end that.
Kill that line and I bet your fps will go up.

Just out of curiousity, what does the load "record" line actually load? It isn't necessary? I would have thought this would be in the readme or something.

Done that, you lose. The performance stays the same. I'm not running FB or rivafb.

GeForce FX5200:
rk@nanny:~$ glxgears
1732 frames in 5.0 seconds = 346.400 FPS
1791 frames in 5.0 seconds = 358.200 FPS
1785 frames in 5.0 seconds = 357.000 FPS

GeForce2 ti with the same setup (just swapped cards):
rk@nanny:~$ glxgears
14632 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2926.400 FPS
14790 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2958.000 FPS
14803 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2960.600 FPS

Look around in /proc/driver/nvidia for hints (you want to see your hardware supported and used). glxinfo also supplies info (you want direct rendering). The tls library has been known to sometimes impair performance - search this forum for TLS.

With my Ti4200 the glxgears score always suck compared to what I see around here (170 fps), but everything seems to work fine in a game. This is running glxgears in a window, by the way.

The 5200 is one of the biggest failures ever released by nvidia.

Half of the 5200 cards in distribution have a major bandwidth limitation
which makes them as slow as a Geforce 2/MX.

Maybe you have one of them. You can easily check by running windoze
and comparing the speeds.

looks like you're using MESA -- i could be wrong, but that's the only thing i could think of. try glxinfo and see what you get.

glxgears is commonly mistaken as a benchmark.... but for some reason people excuse its inaccuracy to not be seen as a benchmarking tool for it being completely inaccurate. there's a reason why it comes with X, it's for diagnostics. if you're getting FPS under 1,000 with anything resembling a modern day card, there's something major wrong.

Below's the glxinfo output. I don't see anything about MESA. What confuses me it that GeForce2 ti performes so much better with the same setup. So I guess the setup is ok.

Yes, but ut2004, et, q3 and every other 3D game I have works fine. I just tried Wolfenstein in a window instead of fullscreen and it still hits my framerate cap (90 fps). Everything seems to work well except this goofy glxgears.
