Yeah I was confused Like my head blew up a little while ago...still picking up the pieces hehehe

ANYHOO. Yeah...he's just taking note that the SM3 lighting doesn't increase FPS in all cases...just certain ones...

Now why is it those two particular levels don't show any benefits? and why is ATI stronger on those than nvidia? What do those levels feature that the nv cards have a hard time with?

mp_airstrip and mp_mangoriver are the ones I'm referring to.

Just seems like if you are a fanATIc you would show benchmarks from those levels to downplay SM3 ...and if you are an nvidiot you would show .... everything else

If you look at the 4xAA/8xAF benchmarks on those levels, they show the Nv40 winning.

True But I credit that to better AA/AF algorithms on nvidia's part or beta ATI drivers. Not because of SM3. So I've just been paying attention to the no AA/AF benchmarks.

This is just incredible. Do you know how many GeForce 6800's will be flying off the shelves in the next few weeks because of this?

Kinda late coming in on this, 9 pages before I even saw it o.o

Anyways, I'm just VERY surprised that there's actually a new technology out that is showing short-term benefits instead of having to wait for the long-haul, Pci-express, DDR2, Prescott, 939 socket amd processors. All of them that have come out in the passed few months have either taken a step back before they move forward, or show no benefit at all, but have much more potential. If any of the new techs would have shown almost no result with the first products that support them, I would have thought this would be it. Due to SP2 not being out, very immature drivers, and being just a patch instead of an engine that was designed around it. VERY pleasently surprised.

Maybe a little off topic, but jvd is spreading doubt about the SM3 already. Does this guy ever stop?

I'm going to try to look at this from a fanATIc's POV just to keep this fair, and possibly someone more knowledgable than myself can answer in case a fanATIc does bring this up

From anandtech's review SM3 only seems to benefit special circumstances. It would be interesting to see a line graph showing the FPS before and after SM3.

Has the average FPS increased simply because only a few seconds of the benchmark peaked much higher than without sm3, but the rest of the benchmark stays relatively the same?

ChrisRay - Does the rest of the game "seem" faster?

Hopefully tomorrow some more benchmarks come out that answer these questions. I really would like to see nvidia shove SM3 down ATI's throat to be honest ATI has had bragging rights way too long.

Point me in the direction of the nVIDIA Geforce 6800 Ultra Extreme Edition please.
