Default 6106 with vesafb and GeForce FX 5200 Text mode problem

Hi...
I am using the new NVIDIA 6106 driver
on a Slackware 10.0 box
using kernel 2.6.7 and with 4k stacks enabled

When I use this NVIDIA driver the machine boots up fine
(even the vesa fb looks really nice on the initial boot process).
X works fine as well...

However when I try to switch from X to any vitrtual terminal in console mode I either get a blank screen or a console screen heavily covered with snow. I have tried booting with no "vga=" modeline and also with "vga=773" neither of which solve the problem...
I have also added Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "TV"
into my xorg.conf file which also did not help....

I would love to get the vesafb working properly side by side with the NVIDIA driver...Anyone have any other ideas...??
Thanks...=)

I have similar problems. Crux 2.0, Linux 2.6.7, vesafb, GeForce FX 5200 with twinview active. When switching from X to a virtual terminal I get random green squares all over the screen. However I had the same problem whit the old drivers as well.

Try vga=normal

Try adding

Option "ConnectedMonitor" "CRT"

in addition to the

Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "TV"

you already tried. For me, both lines have to be present to fix the problem.

Hey...
No this did not solve the problem for me...
I have a Digital Flat Panel....
I also tried

Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP"
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "TV"

which just blanked my screen and X did not work anymore either....

Also vga=normal does not solve the problem...I still cannot reliably switch to cosole mode...

Anyone else know how to solve this problem??
Thanks...=)

If you use a standard VGA cable to connect your monitor, use CRT instead of DFP which is for the DVI output.

BTW, my config is a flat panel but with a standard VGA connector. Also, I have noticed that for me the problem only seems to occur on the cards I have tried with three output connectors (A GeForce4 MX440 for which I can't remember the manufacturer and an FX5200 from Asus), but not the one card I tried with only two (an FX5200 from AOpen). Is this consistent with what happens for everyone else?

Also, if all else fails most people can remove vesafb by removing the "vga=" option altogether, and the console will still work but in 640x480 and without support for images (such as a graphical bootsplash). I have never heard of this measure failing before. But since this didn't work for you, you may have a more serious problem (or at least different) than is typical, which could also explain why the "ConnectedMonitor" option didn't work.

No...
Sorry to say but that is not true for all people
I removed the "vga=" kernel option...
When the machine boots the console mode works fine...
However after X starts and I try to switch to text mode none of the virtual consoles function properly...

Default 6106 with vesafb and GeForce MX440 Text mode problem

I'm having the same problem. On init the console works normally, but once I switch to X and try to go back I get a blank screen. I have a GeForce MX440, NForce2, and a Samsung Syncmaster 173T connected on a DVI cable. I already tried several combinations of "ConnectedMonitor" and "IgnoreDisplayDevices" but nothing works. The problem has persisted for several driver versions (can't confirm the same bug on previous versions, since they worked fine with my previous monitor (since deceased)).

Are there any other things that I could try?

I'm also using DVI and couldn't get virtual consoles to work. Then I tried connecting the VGA too (to the same monitor as the DVI cable), and suddenly it worked! Note that I'm not using the VGA input, it's just that the cable needs to be connected.

I am also having the same problem. Once X is started, text console is screwed up. I have FeForce MX 420 and a flat panel (VGA connection). If I remember correctly, driver 4496 was working fine.
