Does your XF86Config file have "load glx" in it not commented? I had problems on my old computer when I ran it on 15bit colour (yeah, I'm from the UK) depth, basically I couldn't run anything using hardware acceleration. Make sure you're running on one of the standard colour depths, ie 8, 16 or 24. I don't recommend 8......

For anyone trying to install nVidia drivers the Debian way...
Here are my notes.

Note: installing nVidia the Debian way is just a little more than installing the Debian nVidia deb's.

It may be possible I made some typo's, whatever it may be handy for other Debian users with nVidia cards, but .. of course .. use it at your own risk

Thanks for the info , i recently moved from Fedora Core 2 to Debian Unstable and needed clear instructions for installing drivers (now i'm using default ones)
