i'm surprised to see that the o/ced 6800 is around 40% faster in FarCry's Carriar demo @1600x1200x4aax16af than the regular 6800Ultra . (26fps to 36fps)
are you quite sure about these numbers Clay ??!

nice review...

woulda perhaps been prudent to include a horizontal tabulating method rather than vertical as it allows for easier corrolation but other than that a nice job...

@SH64 I'll double check those here in an hour or so and let you know. I did double check everything before posting but I was up some nights quite late.

@Sazar Yeah, I tried that at first...I'm experimenting with different ideas but settled on being able to see the resolutions on same line. It's a personal preference really and I might add both styles in my next review so user has the choice.

Would everyone agree that this style is easier/faster to read than traditional bar graphs though? A bar/line graph of this kind of data gets a bit squirrely to decipher IMO.

Okay, here is the result from FRAPS' log file:

The lines in red indicate the note that I prepend in the FRAPS log file before each run so I don't lose track.

I admit that this does sound high. I recall running it again at the time but I will triple check ASAP. I still have the XTPE in my machine right now though.

EDIT: I neglected to label that OC'd run with "3.0" but it is, in fact the 3.0 section of my FRAPS log file.

yah it is a better idea and dave does something similar when he writes up reviews...

might be an idea to test out a coupla different ways of displaying results to make it stand out more? in excel like you have the option of coloring fields so as to contrast them... might work better...

just an idea...

once i got used to it it was easier but my eyes were still wandering some (hope you don't think I am being too harsh... just providing feedback m8 )

I have a 6800 GT and it is nowhere close to 40C at idle. My GT is more like 57-59C idle and 75-82C under load, and that’s with a case temp around 29C. What are others who have the ultra getting temp wise? I'm amazed if there is that must difference simply because of the bigger heat sink/fan.

Theres a typo on page 4 clay, Sure you can fix that quickly though.

Here, the BFG 6800 Ultra OC does quite a bit better in non AA/AF modes and 1024x769 with those on. The X800XT PE pulls slightly ahead once again with the higher fillrate demands.


The X2 Rolling Demo makes some use of DirectX 9.0 and so we'll see how these cards performed at various settings within the demo.
