Sorry I haven't been following this thread lately, but are all of you with the bug ONLY getting it while overclocking your cards. I've posted in numerous related threads around here that on my setup in only occurs if I OC too much. If that's the case, why not run at standard clock speeds? Maybe I am just lucky.

I was getting it even if I didn't overclock. I upped my voltage in the card's bios and now it runs ok at stock clocks. If I try any small amount of overclocking though it goes right back to freezing.

I got it with no overclocking, and no BFG OC card either. Neither graphics card nor CPU/HTT were overclocked.

I always regreted getting the 150 when the 250 came out. Anyways, I am going to put my system back together with my new Nforce 3 and my old BFG Geforce FX 5950 Ultra in order to get rid of this annoying stutter bug. I am just going to have to put my 6800 gt oc on the shelf until nvidia fixes the issues with 6800 cards and the nforce 3. Can't wait to be able to use any driver I want again with my FX 5950 Ultra. Sure it will be slower than my 6800 gt oc, but I can live with that to get rid of this dam stutter issue.
Why buy a NF3 just to use your 5950u when a VIA will run your 6800 gt

Because of the supposed bug in with the forceware 75 drivers with via agp 3.0 chipsets. Correct me if I'm wrong but it is in the release notes. I can return my new nforce 3 when it gets here if someone with a via chipset could verify for me whether or not their 6800 gt runs perfectly on their via agp 3.0 chipset with the latest drivers. Please a simple yes it works fine or no it doesn't would be perfect. Please, yes I would like to still be able to use my 6800 gt oc.

I can tell you one thing. It seems that 90%+ of nForce3/6800 users have the stutter bug regardless of what driver you use, and 90%+ VIA/6800 users will have no issues. That should be sufficient enough to dissuade anyone from buying an nForce3 board for their 6800.

Well that isn't how it was on my nforce 3. I know that the problem lies in the gpu driver but you don't have to believe me on that. I've had my Nforce 3 for a long time, since I used to use the FX 5950 Ultra. When I bought my geforce 6800 gt oc was when the 61.77 drivers were around. All of the 6x.xx series drivers never gave me any problems. Immediatly after installing the first 71.84 driver released on Nzone.com and testing Farcry I got the stutter bug. I did some looking around on the net and some people said to turn off AGP Fastwrites in the BIOS. So that is what I did. Ever since then my pc had run perfectly with all the subsequent 7x.xx drivers without the stutter bug. However, I fear that now my motherboard is damaged. A while back a thunderstorm came to my neighborhood and knocked my power out. When I turned on my pc again when the power came back on my CMOS battery was dead. Ever since then I am getting stutters in all direct 3d games regardless of what driver I use. I've done practicallys everything to get my mobo back to the way it was before the storm(clearing cmos, replacing battery, flashing BIOS, etc...) and it just won't go back to the way it was. So my reasoning is this, my mobo is already messed up regardless and I need a new one. I think possibly that my 6800 gt oc might just work like it used to on my current mobo with agp fastwrites off with the current driver. Of course it will work perfectly if I install it with the 6x.xx series drivers with agp fastwrites on. So I could still use my 6800 gt oc. So I am getting a new Nforce 3. If all else fails I have my good old FX handy to hold me over until ****** fixes the problem. I really need to get my pc fixed quick because I really want to get the new Starship Troopers game that is coming out pretty soon.

This stutter issue is VERY intermittent. Iíve done thorough testing and sometimes get stuttering on some settings where I got no stuttering at all. The problem is so random sometimes that itís hard to pinpoint what helps and what doesnít. I canít say that the thunderstorm didnít affect your CMOS battery but I doubt that this is what caused your stutters to come back. Again, the problem is very intermittent. I thought I solved my problem long ago but it came back suddenly after a while. If lightning had struck my house at that moment, Iíd probably be blaming it too, but I can pretty much guarantee that thereís a 9 in 10 chance youíre still going to have stutters if you order another nForce3 board. I havenít read up on the VIA/AGP thing, but Iím willing to guess it is not even close to being as big of a deal as the nforce3 6800 stutter issue is. I wouldnít even be surprised if it was a fabrication created by nvidia as someone else on this thread mentioned. Just do some research and make sure that this VIA/AGP thing youíre talking about isnít a huge deal (doesnít sound like it is). A lot of guys on this thread have made the switch to VIA after dealing with the problem and they have not reported any problems with their new setups. They run great.

Well like I said, I still have some options. My new Nforce 3 arrives tomorrow. I'm going to try it out and see how it goes with my 6800 gt oc. If I still get stutters I'll try my FX 5950 Ultra to see if that clears it up. After that I can decide whether or not I want to return the mobo(within 30 days with zipzoomfly) for the chaintech k8t800 board. But what do the people here with via boards and 6800 gt cards think? Should I return my Nforce 3 as soon as it arrives and order the k8t800? I'll report back tomorrow when the board arrives. Like I said if all else fails I can put my FX 5950 ultra back in and play all I want on an nforce 3. I can live with that, for a while. I just hope nvidia fixes this issue(even without ever saying it) in the 8x.xx series driver. Wouldn't be the first time nvidia fixes something without publicly saying it.

you should go with the Abit KV8. why do you want the Chaintech?
then after you see the difference the via board makes, you should sell the 6800 and the 5950 and buy an ati vc

K8T800 chipset here. Never had a freeze in any game with my 6800nu, that I have currently. I have also had a 6600GT,6600, and a 6800GT with this motherboard. Ditch the NF3, and get a Via.

I got it even when I underclocked my Video card when I had a Nforce3 Ultra board
