bonjour

On my side i am very deceived and disapointed by nvidia, not a word on FAQ , i see everywhere people letting down their motherboard and still it's like an hidden secret ?? I dont know if nvidia dont care at all about this problem or if they dont see any fix and just let down but in any way it's sad to see that asus say to look at nvidia for nforce help and that nvidia dont have any support exepted for DVD rom O.o

I even just ordered another motherboard as I am fed up with this problem (I went back to my Radeon 9500 pro for now). At first I thought it was the BFG card because I was running the 71.89 drivers just fine but I was getting a lot of BSODs so I RMA'd it with BFG. The replacement card had the stutter problem immediately, however, if you're saying that you're not having any issues, perhaps the problem is with my BFG card. On the other hand, the people who have switched to VIA seem to have no problem either. I ordered a Uli 1689 chipset mobo so hopefully I won't have any problems with that.
Have you tried to turn off agp fastwrites in your Bios. Gets rid of the stuttering for me.

Thumbs up Re: GeForce 6800 and random freezes

Success!

My system:
6800GT
Athlon XP 3200 400 MHz
1 GB generic PC3200RAM
Gigabyte MB - GA-7VT600 1394

About a week ago, I recieved my shiney new Athlon XP 3200.
I installed the CPU, replacing the existing XP 2400 and was surprised to see only a minor increase in the 3DMark scores:
3DMark03:
XP 2400 = 9583
XP 3200 = 9856
3DMark05:
XP 2400 = 4648
XP 3200 = 4230 - yes! it is slower
I cranked up Doom 3 as it had been not performing well with my previous configuration, mainly studdering sound and video issues. I played along for a bit and was quite pleased with the performance. Then the screen turned black and was instantly replaced by artifacts. The system was then unresponsive and had to be powered down hard. This new symptom continued in Windows and while running 3D games and benchmarks. As seen in the benchmarks above the system was extremely inconsistent in performance. The system would remain stable in safe mode.

I worked through this forum's suggestions with no luck:
  • No option to turn of AGP fast-writes in the Bios! Used Rivatuner - no luck.
  • The clock for 2D and 3D were already the same, some posts recommended setting them to the same value - no luck.
  • One post suggested OC'ing the core - no luck.
I was looking through my Bios settings and decided to tinker with my system memory clock. It was set to auto, so I set it to 200 MHz to make sure it was running at 400. That did not solve the problem either.
I decided to under clock the RAM to 333 MHz with my Athlon XP 3200. IT WORKED!
3DMark03:
10986 (Fast-Writes off)
10991 (Fast-Writes on )
3DMark05:
5230 (Fast-Writes off)
5243 (Fast-Writes on )
I am guessing 1000 points difference in the previous scores is significant.
I now wonder about the RAM I purchased from Directron.com. Even if it is "value" RAM, it should still be stable at the advertised 400 MHz (200x2) clock speed.
I want to thank the folks that contributed to this thread. It did help me out.
I hope my contrib. will benefit others as well.

I don't understand.....What does this have to do with the Geforce6800+Nforce3 stuttering?

This was not only a response to the post prior to mine. If you read the message completely, my post does describe my issues with stuttering, random reboots, etc.
It also describes the steps I attempted to resolve the issue.
Why are you busting my chops?

Maybe I did post to the wrong area. There were some posts regarding crashes and thought my post might be helpful. Before my upgrade from XP2400 to XP3200, my system did stutter. After the upgrade, my system started with the symptoms outlined above.
Apologies for any problems my post may have caused. Just trying to be helpful.

Well I finally managed to get rid of my freezing. I was going to buy a VIA motherboard to replace the borked nForce3 chipset and keep the BFG Geforce 6800OC (it really is a great card), but instead decided to sell the BFG and buy an ATI X800XL. It cost me about the same as a MB replacement would have cost after all was said and done.

On my side seeing that nvidia dont whant to do any official bug notice , neither any help about that i would suggest to send any nvidia based product to RMA. If they dont whants to helps customer so they should not received their money it's simple we are not paid for fixing their products.

I also have an XFX 6800nu with and Nforce3 motherboard. you guys don't think it's a card problem? My first 6800 had major artifacts stutters horribly on normal settings. I tried all the drivers and some made games run a little longer before artifacts and stuttering began.

So I rma'd that for another one. The new one is perfect in every way. It still runs smooth with no artifacts with the 4 extra pipes and vertex shader unlocked, as well as with fast writes on. Games came run for hours without a single glitch.

That is a possible way too. Not a Via mobo but an Ati vga card.

In case someone from nvidia read that :

I was able to fix the freezes on my setup with fast write off light gforce oc 2d/3d at same speed AND DRIVERS 77.72

The Important thing is the drivers release :

66.93 > no FREEZE, perfect results but Diplay bugs ! like shadows in X2
77.72 > No FREEZE, perfects results, no shadow bug BUT a Big bug on lights whits making all divx and several games intro totaly withe
77.77 and ALL release after this one FREEZE , FREEZE and FREEZE ! what eve i do i have full time freeze (exepted sending to trash the agp GART driver and playing with a pci card...)

So seems its a driver issue and if nvidia dont look into their drivers this will never been fixed and all new drivers will be not compatible due to this FREEZE.
