BIOS flash done and coolbits tweak confims that 2d/3d are now set to the same core clock speed (425).

The RTHDRBL demo (windowed) ran fine. Temp went from ~58 to 80 with no distortions.

Testing the 3dmark03 now.

Edit: Oh, this was WITH the computer side panel off.

I'm fairly certain i have a bad card, or atleast EVGA didn't set the HSF down properly on the core/ram.

I installed the Gainward Expert tool and set my fan speeds to 100% and it had zero effect on temperatures, still hovering around 56*C.

I got the new gfx card today from alienware. I'm going to send the defected one back. I just benchmarked with FutureMark with everything on HIGH this time. Although of course making everything on high does sacrifice some Futurermark points, although it was on high it didn't freeze on bit. I'm going to try the games now.

OK thats good that the BIOS Flash fixed that problem of not being able to run RTHDRBL and your stuttering.

That Idle temp of 56C is very normal.

These GeForce6 cards run hot.

My GT idles around 53C~59C depending on temperature outside.
Running the RTHDRIBL demo for one hour it has reached 85C~87C

As for your 3DMark03 problems make sure the card is back down to the 56C idle temps before running it.

I found out that you guys are wasting your time trying to fix defected cards. The first thing YOU MUST do is return the gfx for a new one. If you don't then you will forever have a $500 defected card!!! Please do what I say, you are wasting time trying to fix the problem.

LOL

I hear what you are saying, but 9 times out of 10 it is not a defective card.

Rushing to RMA is only going to get you a new card and you will still have the same problem if it really isn't the card. This has happened many times.

Your scenario was different, and the new card you got back, probably has the New Bios installed and you probably have a different driver, so those 2 things probably fixed your problem.

By all means RMA a card if you have problems doing all the suggestions to fix things, and if the new card arrives and you still have problems, time to take it to a repair shop to have them fix it for you.

Hold on...random freezes.
Does that mean everything goes on ice all of a sudden? That would be a little freaky, actually.

To everyone that has their gfx randomly freezing in 3d applications. Are we all eVGA brand or is it across the board (BFG, PNY, ASUS, Gainward, etc).

If it's just us eVGA owners getting fouled up cards...

eVGA just sent me a response and told me to try flashing/updating my card BIOS.

Good thing I already told them I have a 520watt (+12V 33A) power supply otherwise that would have been their second suggestion
