That doesnt work. I really think my psu just cant handle when I start to oc. Ive also had to use more vcore to keep my oc cpu stable when I switched my geforce fx 5900 for the 6800gt. And Ive also had to underclock the core of my geforce fx 5900 when I switched my previous amd athlon xp 2800+ for my current amd athlon 64 3200+.

My fix for my PNY 6800ultra to get it to overclock without freezing/crashing:

Using latest Rivatuner to make the modifications:
-Turn off agp fast writes
-Enable control of lowpower3d mode
-Sets all clock frequencies the same, this includes: 2d,Performance 3d, and lowpowermode3d
-Force constant performance lvl to performance 3d

Well, I'm one of those who have tried everything possible to solve freezing problem with their 6800 card. Flashed to every BIOS you can think of, set 2D/3D clocks to be the same, disabled fast-writes, AGP4X... you name it.

Nothing works, my card gives 5-10 second freezes in 3DMark03 once I try to go 1MHz past stock 425MHz on the core. Maybe it's that improper core/memory ratio cambrian mentioned, I shall try it next. I definitely know that the problem isn't caused by heat, my card idles at a comfortable 52C and never went over 76C full load. The only game I tried playing was UT2004 which ran fine for about an hour at 450/1200.

I'm seriously upset with such results after spending $500.

I've had the same problem with freezing. Especially in Doom 3. This only seems to happen when the card is overclocked. I installed Rivatuner and set the 3d and 2d clock settings the same, I also disabled fast-writes here, as Coolbits 2 wasn't working, and there is no option in BIOS. The problems seem to have gone! . Games run smoother now, pauses opening doors in Doom3 are gone.

Well, I am back. I just got a card back today from PNY to replace the one I was having problems with. Please see my origianl posts that I have posted in this topic many pages back. (Didn't have another vid card as I gave my old one away). I have had the new card installed for 4 hours now and no problems. I know it is better as I no longer hear the intermitant chirps my first card would have. Those Chirps would also correspond to the freezing and crashing I was having. So far I have played CS and gone into many a smoke bomb and not had the computer freeze or crash. I am about to put a session in of Far Cry to see if that problem too has gone away. If this works, then I recomend to anyone out there to just send your card back to where you got it from for another. I tried everything listed in these forums short of the heat sink thermal paste thing. I will post back later to let everyone know how it goes in Far Cry.

Alright, I am back. Far Cry.......Freezes and crashes to desk top and sometimes will go back to desk top and the graphics will be all busted up. (a pic of this is in this forum on a previous post). I messed w/ some video settings and if I turn the Trilinear Filtering to Bilinear, I can play for much longer, but it still will eventually do the above. I get a chrip through my speakers while I play this game and sometimes right around this chrip is when the problems start. Here is my computer so people don't have to go back to my earlier post.

XP Professional SP2 (This also occured under SP1)
Pentium 4 2.8Gig Processor
Intel Board w/ 800Mhz Frontside bus, 875 chipset (upgraded to latest drivers and latest Bios)
ocZ 520Watt Powerstream Powersupply
1 Gig of PC3200 DDR Ram (I have run this in both Single and Dual channel)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platnum (updated latest drivers)
PNY 6800 Ultra (used various drivers including latest) This is the 2nd Card sent to me from PNY as first card had identical problems.
SATA Seagate 120 Gig 7200RPM HD
Maxtor 30Gig 7200RPM HD
Creative DVD-ROM
HP CD-Burner

I have tried Setting 2d/3d clockspeeds to same speed.....didn't work. Is this card just junk??? Do I need to go get the competitions best card and send this one back to get my money back????? I know most people here are super users and overclockers and such, but I really don't feel that a $500 card should require the user to do all sorts of tweaks just to get it to work. A few driver updates is to be expected, but not some of the fixes suggested here. I have been buying video cards since the days of Voodoo and have never had this problem. Anyone out there have any ideas other than what has been listed here as I can not get those listed to correct my problem.

Have you ruled out power supply problem?

This is your second card so most likely anything in your system EXCEPT the video card is the problem. Try to make your system as stable as possible by not overclocking your cpu, disable fastwrite, sideband addressing, don't overclock your card, take everything out of your system except the video card and the harddrives that run the os and far cry.

Boz's psu looks good enough to me. One thing you could try is to install Rivatuner and set both 3d low power and 3d performance clocks speeds to the same speed. To do this go to the power user tab, overclocking and put a 1 next to 3d low power option. Other than that you could try flashing your BIOS to the Nvidia revision 2 Bios, as many people have tried with success.

Boz's PSU is great and definitely cannot be the problem unless it's faulty.

I agree, the PS is awesome and is not acting up in any way (other than it was huge and I had to buy a new tower case....beware the upgrade!!). It has 2 seperate connectons for Video that I am using to power the card and there is nothing split off of these two connectors. I think I am going to download Rivatuner and start messing around with settings. I will keep posting until I have solved the problem or run into new ones.

Acid...you don't have any problems w/ your Ultra???
