Frustrating.

Where did you disable fastwrites? Despite disabling in the bios for me it was still enabled. Its best to check it is actually disabled using RivaTuner.

Have you also made sure your 2D and 3D clocks are set the same?

Either RivaTuner or the Coolbits 2 tweak will allow you to do that, and I personally prefer the latter. The following thread will show you how to do it using Coolbits 2:

I've turned fastwrites off in BIOS, and in RivaTuner. I've verified that they are off with wcpuid.

Still pauses at 430 core.

Set both 2D and 3D speeds the same, best way is to use coolbits, (avoid coolbits2 its pants).

Yes I know there have been several threads but no one has posted a concrete solution. This worked for me and ALOT of other people in the OCUK forum.

First of all I thought heat, then I thought power related. However after lots of testing and forum posts it turns out it was Fast Writes being enabled causing it. I cant take credit but it definitly fixed the problem.

Interestingly disabling it in bios did not disable it in windows and I had to disable it using RivaTuner.

Also instersetingly for people not experiancing this, disabling Fast Writes appears to allow higher overclocks for people using all types of 6800s.

This appears to be a problem specifically on the nforce3 150/250/Pro/non-pro chipset ironically (as far as we know).

The problem has been posted by people in various places but its never been categorically fixed to my knowledge anyway (I did lots of googling believe me!). So I felt it best to post as a FYI for people.

Haha..thanks. I'll try that later...430 core doesn't pause for me in 3dmark03 and I didn't know this..however any higher and it does, producing terrible scores.

Set the 2D and 3D at the same clock speeds. Still no luck at 430.

Tried the newest drivers as well.

Odd.

sure your not just paging to the HD cause of lack of mem? or excessive stuff running in the background? Try disabling all overclocking on your computer

I have the same random freeze/low fps problem. I have allways run my pc's with FW on without a single problem on Ti's and an FX.

The freeze first showed up for me a the other week on my FX 5900XT when i changed to driver 61.76 whql. Since then i have installed a 6800GT and have moved to 61.77 and dx9c hoping that this would solve the problem, but it hasn't.

I am guessing that this is a driver issue and not a bios/FW/game related problem because the problem was on my FX card also so its not only 6800's. Anyone using drivers earlier than 61.76 have this random freeze/low fps problem ?

Im gonna roll back to a pre 61.76 driver, or maybe give 62.xx a try.

Go figure.

I fixed this problem on my XFX 6800u By flashing the BIOS per these instructions:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...ght=6800u+BIOS

Fixed the problem + I'm stable at 450/1200.

I think it was the .1 on the core voltage that made all the difference.
