Hi

Some questions for you

-Cooling? Water or stock air cooling? Temps?
-450/1200 in 3D only or in 2D/3D?
-No Problems in any Bench, Game etc...
-Revision number bios?

Well, thanks in advance!

@ NOXIS:

Hey "Nox"

Could you do me a favor?

Can you examine the "new" Gainward Bios they provided for the GW Users @ their forum some days ago?

Perhaps there is a different voltage setting in the bios, `cause it`s not a good overclocker. The XFX works good for a lot of People?!?

Hint: Perhaps the GW Bios is good to be tweaked, cause the Fan behaviour is little different from reference: It spins faster than reference when a 3D application is started. --> Louder but Cooler

Perhaps you can check this out , too?

Thanks in advance Noxis

Bye

I would be surprised if the gainward has got a low voltage, the max you can give in the bios is 1.5v and the stock specified by nvidia is 1.4.

Hi Noxis,

well, do you think 1,5V and a oc like 450/1200 for example would be dangerous for the 6800 Ultra`s? Perhaps not for the moment, but the "durability"

Or perhaps NVidia kept the option to tweak the bios to 1,5V for some brands like BFG or Gainward to oc their "Extreme Versions"?!?

What temps do you guys get using 1,5 vs 1,4 before?

Thanks

Bye

Thanks Nox!

I haven't done any overnight stability testing yet, but things are running much better (no freezes) in painkiller and far cry. Hell, even if I cant run at 450, I can clock it down to 440 and still get a good overclock.

My Idle temps are around 59-61 (up about 2 points from before the flash)

I don't have load temps yet.

Either way, I'm very happy so far. Feel like I'm finally getting what I paid for.

I'll run some more serious stability tests tonight.

I tried the auto overclock on my BFG GT OC, and I got a screen corruption and hardlock in 2nd gametest of 3dmark03. I think the ram was pushed too high.. Usually means that with screen corruption.

Tried a manual overclock of 400/1000, and it ran fine no problems.
The heat over here in UK is unbearable at the mo tho.. so I'm running stock for the time being.

Actually I was thinking the same thing, the extra .1v in the bios is there for the nvidia partners to push out extra fast boards. I dont think a small increase like .1v will shorten the life the core unless you are planning on keeping it 5 years+ Keep it well cooled and no probs.

Cioa Im new from Italy, I just drop to say TNX to Nixis,I set your edited bios on my XFX 6800 ULTRA, work just fine it was like my old one(Version 5.40.02.10.04) but Twiked.
I got few question:
1)is possible to edit the bios to make the fan spins faster at the max all the time?
2) Culd you please make me a Bios 450/1250 ? I testted my ram and I can bench the 3dmark2003@ 450/1300 so I think 1250 is rocksolid .
tnx again.

Quick update.

I've been running with the new BIOS for a few days now, and I have had NO significant problems. I have done a full stability test (3DMark03 looping 24 hrs) with no problems.

I backed down the memory to 1170 because I would get occasional slight artifacts at 1200.

Oddly enough, when I overclocked the core to even 455, I was right back to getting freezes in games.

Anyway, 450/1170 is a great overclock, and I'm happy!

leatherface does your BFG 6800 Ultra have Fast Writes enabled?

As a m8's BFG 6800 Ultra seems to have Fast Writes disabled in the BFG GFX cards Bios, which is apparently a sign of having an early Bios revision!!
