it is not random... i figured out it has to do with direct 3d or direct x or somethin and im not sure why but ill explain

i was having this problem.. so i was using the 66.93's with f/w off and it was fine
then theese new 80.40 drivers came out and i switched to those and it worked fine!!! i was so happy... but then somethin happened (not related to this) and i had to format... once i did this i installed the 80.40 drivers and the problem was back!!! ghasp... so i went back to the 66.93's and then switched BACK to the 80.40's and it worked again but only for a short time for some reason....

now here is where i think it has to do with direct x... cause for one it only seems to happen in dx games... and this...
i like listening to cracktro/keygen music... and one of those that i have is animated... ill attach it here as its not a keygen and the files it used to have are gone...

but the second i run this boom.. my computer starts stuttering like crazy freezing the computer compleley for about 6-10 seconds at a time and un-freezes for about 1 second... and it continuously freezes untill i manage to alt-tab or open another window on top of it...but as long as im not VIEWING it it works fine....and i also noticed my cpu usage went way up on that cracktro... so if somone may be able to examine this little program i think it would be easier to figure out the problem (since its such a small thing and uses verry simple AND OLD graphics)

remember there is absolutly nothing illegal in this cracktro
hxxp://atlas.walagata.com/w/fishy80/cracktro.rar

-------------------edit

i have narrowed it down some more... ALOT more
here is exactally what i did
1.install 66.93 restarting when it asks and everything
2.install 80.40 beta drivers without uninstalling 66.93 first..
3.tried my cracktro it worked!
4.changed my nview profile to 8xS antialiasing and kept the "application controlled" box UNchecked...
5.tried my cracktro.. it DIDNT work..
6.put it back on application controlled
7.tried my cracktro IT WORKED AGAIN!

so in conclusion i think it has to do with different settings like antialiasing ect. not being compatable with the applications that we are trying to use them on so leave them application controlled
GOOD LUCK FRIENDS!!

Do you mind showing me where I state this would fix everyone's problems? Hardly, I'm simply explaining my personal experience in the hope that maybe It does help someone overcome this annoying circumstance.

I must be dreamin, cause I swear you just said that thread provided no information regarding "random freezes". Anybody else find at least a little spec of useful information from it? I just wanna make sure I havent lost my marbles...

I don't suffer from random, 3-4 freezes. I suffer from time-to-time hard-lockups (along with some annoying, long sound-glitches) which forces me to reboot. What could it be? Maybe it's the RAM? (currently at SPD).

Thanks in advance.

Criticalfish I believe all you are doing is making the card work harder by turning on AA so it is locking up sooner. I leave mine on application controlled and it still has the freezing/lockup problems when I try any overclocking.

I had the same issues and then I reloaded windows and it went away.

odd thing is on my nf2+6800gt system i get 2-5 second freezes but only in mmorpg games like WoW and guild wars... it's not lag stutter as lag stutter is when objects warp. this is the entire screen freezing. something about the way mmorpg games are coded my system doesn't like. none of the troubleshooting steps detailed in this thread have helped.

Hi, installing an NV5 silencer fixed my pausing completely. Seems the nforce3 is much more sensitive(unstable) to overclocking then most other boards. I still can't overclock as much as I could in the intel rig even with the nv5 but at least the pausing is gone.
