I heard same thing that Vito heard, that soon a new Parhelia is going to be released that fixes all the current problems and is 30% faster
Thats good news to me. We need more competition and choices in the video card market, not less ![]() |

With a 256-bit memory bus, I don't see how it can possibly be price-competitive with the GeForce4 Ti 4600.
It might have been possible six months ago, but even then Matrox wouldn't be in nearly as good of a situation as nVidia. Going into the next few months, the situation is only getting worse for Matrox. |

Now if they were talking 30% faster than the Radeon 9700, they might have something. But 30% faster than what they have right now isn't much of a deal, especially if it's priced in line with where the Parhelia was when it first came out.
And there's no way this new card will come out in the Budget/Ti4200/R9500 price range. So that pretty much leaves Matrox in video card limbo. A card which won't be as fast as the current best, yet is too expensive to be considered a value product. ![]() |

Well, given the four textures per pixel pipeline, if they can get the aniso image quality up, the performance *should* be quite good. Additionally, if they can fix *all* of the problems with FAA, well, that would also be nice.
But, I think it would still be too little too late. With the 9700 already out, and probably at a similar manufacturing cost, and the NV30 on the way, the Parhelia doesn't stand much chance. |

one thing i dont really understand is that matrox is selling this card for gamers and 3d workstation. But for the price/performance is not a gamers card and a Geforce 4 ti4660 is a lot more faster than the parhelia in workstation apps let alone Quadros, Wilcats or FireGLs
So i dont quite follow their strategy or you make a gamers card or a 3d workstation one.

matrox isn't going anywhere unless they increase their performance. maybe nvidia or ati would purchase them when they fall.

Matrox and ATI should just merge. Heck, they're both Canadian companies, they might as well. Joining the engineering teams of Matrox with the teams in ATI will just crush Nvidia.
