You think the antec 480watt trublue will do the job?

I would recommened the 470 watt OCZ over the trublue. It may seem like its 10 watts less(the OCZ), but the OCZ holds their current alot better and dont experience as much loss when it gets to normal opperating temps as most other PSU's do. Actually, Id suggest the 520 watt oCZ over the 470 since the price difference is only 16 dollars. The big difference besides a better build for OCZ is that its got 33a on the +12 rail, whereas the trublue has only 22a on the +12. For future use and upgradibility, the OCZ cant be beat, especially since its already BTX compliant(see above post of mine that outlines some of the features).

470 OCZ at newegg: 109.50

520 OCZ at newegg: 125.50

Antec trublue 480: 87.50

Well i already have the trublue as a backup PSU for any computer that popped its psu. I've been cautious as to what watts i needed to have after upgrading from my old system
Old
PIV 1.8ghz
512 x 3 pc133 ram
2 x 120gb hdds
dvd rw
dvd-rom
audigy 1
Geforce 5900

This was all with the same zalman 400watt. In this upgrade i changed all my fans to thermal/adjustable to quiet things down. I didn't look for any PSU upgrades because i had the trublu 480 as backup if 400watts didnt cut it.

So far only FarCry is locking up. I ran doom 3 at max everything without a hiccup on the same (new) setup. Haven't tried ut2k4 yet.

I'll go for the OCZ on the next upgrade (Or if i decide to O'C with some water cooling) because i don't really want Two spare power supplies lying around, but the trublu should fix the far cry lockups?

One question, Is it a MUST to connect a fresh cable without anything else connected to it except to a 6800 ? what happens if you use a split cable ? im all out of fresh cables from my PSU will it work anyway ?

Okay, debating between two different PSU's, but I just read in the other forum (random freezes) that awshucks101 got a 500watt+ PSU and the random freeze is still there.

PSU1: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...104-152&depa=0

PSU2: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...101-205&depa=0

#2 has a little bit better amp ratings, but i like things quiet, so the OCZ whisper tech is an appealing factor for me.

I just installed a voltage reader (ASUS PC Probe) and here's the findings.
all temps celcius

CPU Temp - 38*
MB Temp - 27*
CPU fan - 2177
Power fan (rear exit fan) 2445
+12V - 11.673
+5V - 5.053
+3.3V - 3.344
Vcore - 1.568

This is all idle and my 6800 ultra temp is still reading 56*.

Okay, now i'm confused. I just ran FarCry as a demonstration of how bad the lockups are and the game played fine. No glitches, no artifacts, no freezes and i haven't changed anything. Core gpu temp still hovering 55 or so.

So i decided to play far cry and got wrapped up in it for about 3 hours or so. If anyone has the game, i went from blowing up the big satalite dish to uploading the PDA stuff.

Then the next level came, started out, noticed my RPG looked a little grainy, carried on and froze like 'normal'

Now what? If i could go for 3 hours and no problems to all of a sudden "frosty", what gives? Power supply? heat?

The only change i DID notice is after i applied the coolbits 2 tweak to get into the Fast write, yesterday no matter what i changed on that page, fast write re-checked itself and AGP reset itself to 8X from 4x/2x/pci. Now today i look at it and it stays where i put it after clicking 'apply'.

If disabling fast writes postponed the lockup, i'm still not sure what is causing it.

I tried to check my gpu temp at the time of freeze but logging out of windows and back in didnt get rid of the far cry jungle scene stuck on my monitor

Actually, PSU#2 does NOT have better amp rating. The first link is the OCZ 520 which has 33a on the +12. The 2nd link is that Aerocool 550 which has 30a on +12. As far as the other rails, I wanted to remind you that the OCZ has adjustable pots for +3.3, +5, and +12.
+3.3 adjustable from 2.8v to 3.8v
+5 adjustable from 4.5v to 5.5v
+12 adjustable from 10.8v to 13.2v

The aerocool is a nice looking psu sure. And I like the blue lighted fans on it, but unless you got a windowed case, you'd never see the bottom fan. The OCZ does have green lighted exhaust fan. There are no sata cables on the aero, so you have to use an adapter if you have sata drives. The OCZ does have a seperate sata power line(2 connectors). The OCZ also has dedicated vga lines...thats 2 of them which are BOTH on their own line. So this is the run down basically for the OCZ.:
1 x dedicated sata power line with 2 connectors
2 x dedicated shielded vga lines(1 connector each) with rfi filters
2 x standard molex lines with 3 molex plugs and 1 floppy plug per line

8 molex connections WITHOUT the need of y splitters.
2 sata

Anyways, not crapping on any PSU really, but the OCZ is a better unit with the only PSU in its league is the PCp&c(although that is quite a bit more expensive).
