Thats a nice one jAkUp.....hope you like it. In my oppinion, both PCp&c and OCZ are pretty much on the same level as far as quality. Anyone interested in comparing them, please feel free to read through the review I lsited of the OCZ and then go find a review for PCp&c. They are both awesome PSU's, with OCZ being cheaper on the wallet, but not cheaper in parts....probably because they have a lot of other things like memory and stuff to spread out the total costs of doing business.

Speaking of the OCZ power supply, I ran across the OEM supplier of them today (ToPower):

Although they look almost the same, that Topower 686P6 you linked to isnt the same as the OCZ Powerstream. I wouldnt doubt if one or the other used the respective other's as a template. BUT, OCZ has already stated publicly that that the OCZ is modeled after the Tagan's at least in part.

Now, for whats different. That PSU in the link looks very much the same EXCEPT, there are no VGA/HDD dedicated 4 pin lines at all. There are no LED lights above each of the voltage rail adjusters to monitor whether they are within spec. Third, the finish is different. That topower has a chrome finish. The OCZ has a nickel mirror black finish. Also, the OCZ has a green LED exhaust fan, the topower doesnt. Thats just the physical differences. The topower claims 560 watts. OCZ's current top line is 520, however, thats at 40c opperating temps. OCZ peak is 620watt.
Those topowers are made in china, so it wouldn't surprise e that they may have "copied" the OCZ. Or its also possible that OCZ procurred rights to the basic design and then modified it extensively. In either case, I would say they are at best long distant cousins.

OK quick question....

I have a Enermax 300w and a Entec 350w that seem to not cut it with my new Gainward 6800 GT "Golden Sample". Soooo I'm in the market for a new PSU. I have targeted these two. Any thoughts....

ENERMAX 550W
http://www.maxpoint.com/products/pow...124p/index.htm
Output: +3.3V@36A; +5V@36A; -5V@1A; +12V@36A; -12V@1A; +5VSB@2.2A

Love the balanced specs.... 36A

And

OCZ PowerStream 520W
http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/PSUSpec.pdf
Output: +3.3V@28A, +5V@40A, +12V@33A, -5V@0.5A, -12V@0.5A, +5VSB@2.0A

Any strong thoughts either way? Both seem to be stunning products...

VERY VERY strong thoughts for the OCZ 520.. GET that. Theres no contest between that and the enermax. I have the 520. Theres no comparison. There have been several reviews that say they've replaced their testbed machines PSU with an OCZ because they found in their tests that the OZ beats everything and is comparable to a PCp&c. And the OCZ's are far less expensive then Pcp&C'S and are of the same quality internally and BETTER EXTERNALLY!

Cool.... and it's $10 less expensive. But the Enermax does come with case stickers. Hmmm that might be the difference in price.... the stickers.

Thanks for the reply

Thumbs up Re: GeForce 6800 power supply questions

So Kahloq

Since today, 20:15pm i am one of the proud owners of a
OCZ 520W Powerstream PSU

This PSU really kicks some ass.

Lets look at before and after :

With my former high quality TSP 450W Triple Fan Blue PSU
http://www.pc-cooling.de/catalog/art...oducts_id=4398
+3.3 - 3.26V
+5 - 4.95V
+12 - 11.67V / 11.61V (in "idle" mode) - dropped down to 11.54 while gaming (11.4 is minimum ATX2.0 specs)
-12 - 12.45V
-5 - 5.15V
+5 - 4.73V

Now with the OCZ 520W (nothing adjusted)
+3.3 - 3.28V
+5 - 5.00V
+12 - 11.92V ("idle") (didn`t try gaming yet)
-12 - 12.28V
-5 - 5.15V
+5 - 4.92V

So i dont want to say that my "old" PSU was the cause for about 3 lockups in different games
(i recently updated my 6800U Bios with a newer version) - no lockups since then with the "old" PSU.
But it sure shows that the OCZ is a true powerhouse.

my system which is a bit powerhungry:

I just want to recommend it to anybody too, who has a high end system - and
be sure to have enough power under the hood !

Farewell, mortals !

Glad your satisfied with the OCZ. Try gaming now since you stated you hadn't and see if you still get lockups. Remember, if you do, you can try adjsuting the +12 a bit. If after that, you still get lockups ,then theres obviously something else wrong, but still you got a great PSU that will last you for years through several UPGRADES

Default Re: GeForce 6800 power supply questions

I hope someone answers this question. I'm trying to build a nice PC. I am going to by an ASUS GeForce 6800 Ultra. My powersupply is an Enermax Coolergiant 480watt. it states 16a on the 12V rail, but max's out at 20. I'm not sure its supposed to be maxed for a long time though.
The only other parts in my system will be
2x 512 megs ddr 3400
Athlon 64 3500+ (socket 939)
Asus A8V deluxe
1 DVD burner
1 s-ata 120 gig harddrive
onboard sound.
4 fans.

My question. Can I overclock my geforce 6800 U
Oh.. forget. My powersupply has 5 molex, and 2 extra for s-ata drives. I would only be using one of those s-ata connectors.
So 2 molex directly to the video card. One to the dvd burner, and one for all the fans. Would that work for overclocking the card?

At 16a on your +12 rail on that PSU is close. It will probably run the ultra ok, and you may get some overclock out of that PSU since you have little else in your case. If you do run into problems, then you will know you'll need to get a PSU with better then 18a on the +12 rail. I highly recommend OCZ's PSU's. They are better then any other PSU out there with the possible exception of PCp&c and in thatc ase are vrey comparable with more features(OCZ). OCZ has 3 versions of their powerstream. .... 420, 470, and 520. The 420 has 30a and the 470 and 520 have 33a on the +12.

Check this page at newegg showing the 3 models.
