Default Re: GeForce 6800 power supply questions

Need a PSU recommendation.... I will have my 6800 ultra back in service here shortly and I've made a few upgrades to my system and I'm seriously worried about my Enermax 420 watt PSU. Here's my new specs:

Soyo P4I865PE Dragon 2 plus mobo
P4 3.2e at Stock
1024 MB PC 3200 in dual channel 2.5-3-3-8
eVGA 6800 Ultra at Stock
2 Panasonic 160 GB 7200 RPM HDD in IDE Raid 0
1 100 GB 7200 RPM HDD
1 Pioneer DVR 104 DVD Burner
1 Liteon DVD 52X CD / DVD Player
1 PCI Firewire Card
1 PCI IDE Raid Card
1 PCI Ethernet Card
2 80 mm case fans

Anyone think I'm gonna need more juice? How do you tell if your PSU is getting boderline (besides system glitches and power interruptions)? Any PSU recommendations - I'd like to keep it under 100 bucks.

Thanks...

I don't know how many amps your PSU puts out on the +12v rail, but for an Ultra you should have 20-22 min. If you want to get a new PSU, I like the Ultra X-Connect 500watt. It puts out 34A on the +12v rail, has modular cables, and looks really cool (if you're into that - lol)

It has 22 amps on the 12 volt rail.... That x-connect is cool, but I need more molex connectors.... It only comes with 6 if I remember correctly. Do you think I could just buy some Y molex connectors and make do?

No Buy an OCZ 470 or 520. It has 6 molex connectors PLUS TWO dedicated molex lines for vgathat are shielded with RFI filters(these two would be what you'd put on your ultra). It also has separate line for SATA HDD power cables. So basically 10 power connections not including floppy.

I second the OCZ PowerStream it has all the molex connectors you need and has plenty of power to go with it,I have not had a single problem out of mine, and I like the two shielded dedicated 12v molex connectors to hook up my 6800ultra.

Hi. I have a BFG 6800 GT OC and a TRUE430 PSU... I also have a Antec SL450 lyin around that came w/ my new case. I have 5 WD hard drives, LITE-On CD-RW and NEC DVD+/-RW, oh yeah and 3 case fines.. does that sound like too much for a TRUE430? would the SL450 be better? should I buy that cool black $210 PSU?? hehe

Edit: I am getting computer lockups and reboots after about 20 min of rthdribl_1_2. I'm not sure if something's wrong with the card (grrr, my 3rd GT!!! 4th 6800 overall) or if i need more juice...or fewer hard drives

What isn't documented is its *incredible* voltage stability. I have never seen a PSU like it - its quite unbelievable.

"buy that cool black $210 PSU??"

What PSU are you referring to?
The OCZ 520 is $140 and is a mirror black/charcoal color and is by far one of the best PSU's on the market. Better then PCP&C in my oppinion

You can test to removing some internal devices suchs HDD's or opticals and then run the rthdribl test again. If it still locks up after 20 mins, it could be the PSU is not supplying enough power. If that is the only case of lockups or errors, then there might be a driver issue. If the card works fine in all other scenarios, then the card is fine and may not be getting enough juice.
