Default Re: GeForce 6800 power supply questions

Hi, my rig will consist of:
Athlon 64 3200
6800 GT
3x 512 PC3200 Ram
3 Seagate HDs( 60, 60, 200)
16x DVD+- RW
16x DVD Drive

A Dangerden Pump that runs off the 12V line (~1.5 Amp Current Draw)

Ok, Powering this will be a Seasonic Super Silencer 400W (450W Max)

The stats are 3.3V/28A 5V/30A 12V/22A

Supposedly, Seasonics are supposed to be high quality and are capable of delivering their specifications, unlike others which may lie about the numbers. Additionally, its suppose to be quiet. Bottom line, is this enough power? 22A on the 12V line is pretty high for a 400W supply.

Default Re: GeForce 6800 power supply questions

I have a FIC Condor SFF. I want to get a 6800 gt. Specifically the eVga 6800gt. The power supply is rated at 200w with pfc. I have seen posts relating to the need for an 18a rated supply. I'm hoping someone out there has some information as all the reviews for the FIC Condor seem to use ATI cards...such as the 9800XT...I want a 6800 gt though

Your gonna have issues with lack of power with anything from nvidia's new line(6800 series). You could get away with a 6600GT tho, possibly a 6800nu. Same would go for ATI's newer cards. You would probably have some problems being able to run an x800 series, but probably be just fine with an x700. Another issue would be if the card you want can physically fit in that small cramped space

Cool Re: GeForce 6800 power supply questions

Kahloq,

Thanks for the good information. Quite a disappointment though. And to think they billed the FIC Condor as "The Gamer's Best Friend" hehe...

6600GT?... The only thing that disappoints with that option is the 128mb and 128 bit memory interface...

You mentioned the 6800nu might work...What are the +12v power requirements for the 6800nu?

Thanks for the information....what a great board!

So 18A for the 6800GT...20A for the 6800ultra. Does anyone have the rating required to run a 6800nu?

Enermax-EG465-AX-VE(G)-FMA works fine in my System. It provides 33A (!) on 12 V and has an extra plug for extra devices such as Graphic Cards etc.

I really don't know honestly. Some ppl have said they've been able to run a 6800GT on 15a on the +12. That's still quite abit above 10a. You would probably be ok with 6800nu. Buy it from like Best Buy(they have them on the shelves in stock). Also Best Buy is offereing $20 instant OFF if you spend $200 or more. The 6800nu is generally 299. If for some reason, you still cant run it due to lack of power, you can do two things. return it to the store and instead get a 6600GT or see if you cant replace the PSU in that small toaster looking box called the FIC Condor( )

Cool. Thanks for the information Kahloq. Yeah whatever I do I'll definetely try the 6800nu first. According to the maual the Condor has 12A on the +12v. Hopefully that'll help out a bit. Only if it did not work I'd go with the 6600gt. I think that 256 bit interface is vitally important.

If all else fails I can get a credit from their kitchen appliances department :-)!

Not about 6800, but rather 6600GT...

Im planning on purchasing a XFX GeForce 6600GT, and am wondering if anyone knows the demands on the PSU, amps on the 12V-rail and such...
Currently i have a Chieftech PSU capable of delivering 315W and 15A on the 12V-rail...will that be enough?

Yes you'll be fine. 6600Gt is not near as power hungry as the 6800 series

Default Re: GeForce 6800 power supply questions

I've just got a aeolus 6800GT. Works fine. My question is;

I got a packard bell system with a stock 280W PSU, i gamed for about a week now, sometimes 6 hours on a row, no problem.

However, will this psu last? Its only 280W?

Should i buy another? I dont want my current supply to break down.

Tnx.

-The videocard also gets 77C stressed (when i get out of a game NFSU2) is this normal?
