Default Re: psu to Point of View GeForce 6800 Ultra ?

*Sigh*. UDawg created a sticky about this.... It's been stated time and time again. Nvidia lowered the wattage reccommendation from 480 to 350, although some people have been able to run at 300. IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE AMPS ( think A stands for that?) ON THE 12V RAIL!!! Check you PSU manual, or even better the back of your PSU. It should have a little graph thing like this 12v-20A or something with a bunch of more stuff like that. If your 12V rail is 18A or more (actually like 20 to be safe) then your good to go. All depends on how many more accessories you have plugged in also. But a 20A on 12v rail is enough, my Antec True430 430Watt PSU has 20A on 12v rail, and has been runnning perfectly on a GT.

Thanks for your opinions and replies
Is your Levicom PSU this model number? SPS-420XPE-P

If so, then you should be fine as it has a 22A rating on the 12v rail.

Here are the specs from their website....they use frames on their site and/or popup windows with session traps so I can't easily link to it.

Someone from a place other than N. America will have to answer that as Point of View doesn't distribute cards over here.

PoV are refrence cards.

According those PSU specs it should be ok.. Note "SHOULD". The thing is that there's no standard how manufactorers rate their PSUs, those 22Amps might be delivered the first 1min and then the PSU becomes warm and the Amps start dropping like flies.

The ultra doesn't consume that much power as every one has been saying. It might under some SUPER rare circumstances when every single transistor is working overtime but under 3dgames this review measured around 80w.

Even a good 300W PSU is sufficient for a GT or even Ultra card, but it depends on what other components you have in your PC, especially on the most power consuming such as the CPU.
Generally a normal high-end PC using 1-2 HDDs, 2 optical drives, 6800GT, around 2GHz AMD / 3GHz P4 OCed a bit, 512-1GB RAM shouldn't consume more that 250W at extreme situations where all the components are loaded to the maximum (that happens very rarely).

Right, there were early tests done with a "quality" 250W PSU with the 6800Ultra upon release and there were no problems at all. If one plans on overclocking then they may want to consider a more powerful (used loosely) PSU.

Received my Antec 480 Neo yesterday. It looks pretty cool. I like the idea of plugging in only the cables you need. Only 1 fan but it's huge. And a seperate connector just for case fans. With the 2 12V rails I think this should work. Now I just need my 6800U to see how she works

Unfortunately it has not made any difference. If anything the voltage rails have a slightly greater deviation from the normal than my Q-Tec had, but perhaps that's not important. The Antec is quieter however, which is nice.

So it does indeed seem like I have a faulty GC. I've yet to have a reply from MSI but the 48 hours are still not up.

dont flash your card ,you migh lose the guarantee.
just return your card .. for a new one. but before returning it ,you migh try to do anything of this..

for any 6800 user with problem read here if this helps..

however dont call evga for support ,but your manufacturer

My PNY 6800GT should be here today. Here are the specs for my Antec 300 watt - http://www.antec.com/specs/sl300s_spe.html - I am running with 2 512mb ddr chips, p4 1.8a (o/c to 2.1), 1 dvdrw, 1 ide hard drive, and about 5 case fans. Do you guys think I will be able to run this card on this power supply?
