Default Red Hat 9 Boot problems

I just installed Linux red hat 9 on my PC and X Window wont start up.
It didn't start up during installation too.All I get is black screen. This looks like problem described in rhl-ig-x86-en-9.pdf manual from red hat website but I can't install new drivers because whenever I boot linux X starts automaticly and I bet black screen and I can't do anything.I'm sorry if this was allready discussed somewhere.

You can edit your kernel boot parameters while in Grub. Select the Linux entry, push p and enter your password (if you have one set), then push e to edit the Linux entry, select the line that starts with 'kernel' and push e to edit that line. Now, go to the end of the line and add a space then the number '3'. Push enter to save the change, then b to boot. When it boots, you will be in text mode only, from there you can install drivers.

Most likely, RH9 has selected to use the default 'vesa' driver for X which is the wrong one (it doesn't know what kind of card a GeF FX is). If you edit your X config file (/etc/X11/XF86Config-4) and change 'Driver "vesa"' to read "Driver "nv"' your X may start up, that would allow you to download the driver using X programs, and setup your networking with the redhat tools. Then boot to runlevel 3 (as described above) and you can install them.

maybe a problem with monitor detection, this happens often. try adding "ignoreEDID" "boolean". It's metioned in the readme

I had a problem with Redhat 9 and my Wifes Computer She also has an FX Card the problem lies in the Redhat system and the Frame buffer somehow, how I solved the problem was I put on a Different Distro. Mandrake Will Work, Slackware Works, and Gentoo Works. I know I love Gentoo maybe Give it a try

Yep, the version of XFree86 that RH9 installs is simply old. It can work if you correct its bad assumption about the video card, vesa will not work, nv should.
