Half life 2 vaporware?..Hey, wouldn't it be something if the hacker stole the only copy Valve had.

So did Pcgamer. I'm confused by many of the reviews in here. I don't have the game yet, because I was holding off for a 6800 ultra to play it on. But now I'm not sure it's worth waiting for.

What issue did you read? PC Gamer gave it 94 - I'm looking at it right now.

Your right, but still. 94 is damn good by PC gamers standard's. I don't think they've ever given 100.

I'm quite impressed with the AI in D3 .

i though it was going to be a simple shoot 'n run .. but seeing how marines evade your shots & how some monsters teleports until they appear next to you .. i'll just ad this for the game pros

If this was a fly by night, 2 bit company then I would agree. But this is Id we are talking about. The kings. I expect more out of them. I though Q2 was the most balanced version they had. Its single player was pretty good for its time, and its MP ruled. Sorry but for $55 of my money I wanted a complete pacakge not something I have to rely on the mod community (even though I am part of that comunity).

However it seems almost every major FPS has some kind of alien/mutant/demon invasion that you have to stop and are the only one that can do it, it kinda got cliched after the 10th or so FPS used that plot element. But that certainly doesn't mean the story in those games can't be good, it's just that usually games seem to use that as their main "plot" and don't develop it any further or have other elements to the story.

Oh well, I won't hold it against Doom 3 since it is just supposed to be a retelling of Doom 1, in fact I'm rather impressed at how well they've upgraded the setting (wouldn't really call it a "story" though). At least it isn't as horribly cliched and rediculous as Return to Castle Wolfenstien, it's like they played Wolfenstien, then they played Doom, and then thought "Hey, lets put these two togeather!".
haven't played breakdown yet

hopefully it'll be bargain bin material soon

wrt doom... done with it and now am going back through it with GOD mode and a trusty chainsaw

now THAT is the way it should be played

Doom 3 runs great on my rig.

I did not expect them to re invent the wheel and I am a tad disappointed. The lights going off suddenly and getting jumped, getting attacked by a monster from the rear after you engage one in the front, it's all old basic Unreal to me. And the Hollywood Satanism is silly in what supposed to be a futuristic environment. I would enjoy it a tad more if the adversaries were just your basic creepy others, like in "Aliens". It's not that I have a person problem with Satanic themes on a moral level, I don't. I just consider it cheesy, yesterday, and overdone. I don't find 'the devil' and such things scary, mostly because of what I said, and add boring to the list. I didn't expect most of the textures to be as simple as they are, still the game looks good thanks to effects/lighting.

Maybe I was expecting more from mob AI, or something new along those lines. It still is creepy getting jumped in the dark, yes, and I hope I find something more before it is all over. In some places I find it too darn dark to enjoy, even with the flash light. Annoying starts to over ride creepy in this cases.

Overall it does succeed in establishing a mood, and I have yet to find anything that different. It was sort of fun having to move the 'toxic' barrels with that mechanical claw before I went through one room.

Maybe I have been gaming too long, and am jaded. I am not completely through the game so perhaps my opinion will change when I am done.

I just got Doom3 today from EB Games in the mail. It plays absolutely FANTASTIC at 1024 x 768 with high settings on my computer You don't need a 6800 to enjoy this game.

It is one of the best pc games I have ever owned. Gameplay is awesome, the ambience amazing

Fantastic, awesome, amazing... that covers it pretty good I think

okies... updates on current GOD-mode chainsaw rampage

all right... this is officially oodles of fun

the game looks a lot nicer when you are indeed racing through it dodging them buggers and poppin em with shotties (not my preffered way of doing things) or chain-sawing em to death (oooh yah )
