I picked up my copy of Doom 3 last night the only drawback is that there is no Linux Installer available. However I am playing it on my wifes Computer which has Windows XP

Apart from the Linux Installer not avail yet for Doom 3

My take on it is simple

ID Software.. you guys just Rock!

IM DOOMED!

THis is the best experience I have had in a game the wait was well worth it!

Men, what a disappointment. From the techical point of view, this engine was badly overhyped and overrated. Most of the textures have a comparatively low resolution and they're badly blurred. With bump mapping disabled the general look of the surfaces is even worse. The polycount of the meshes is also very low.
The only impressive part of this engine are the real time shadows; but this alone does not compensate for blocky meshes, flat and lowly detailed surfaces and blurry textures.

After having seen the Unrealengine and Cryengine, I am accustomed to an higher level of detail, both texture and mesh wise. I can tolerate blob shadows or static lighting but there is nothing like walking near a surface and see a badly blurred, flat polygon

These are just my two cents.
Why would you disable bumpmapping? ... What is the point of saying "yes itll look worse if you disable a feature designed to make it look better"? If I unplug my videocard, yes, Doom3 wouldn't look as nice........

I'm not sure what people were expecting with the MP.. aside from annoying connection issues to non-full servers, MP is hella fun. Yes, you can't have 32 player DMs, but it's a refreshing change from a chaos filled match of UT2004. It's much more tactical where you have to "stalk" the other players. I really like it, and I'm sure it'll get even better once we get more people playing and we get more mods/maps/etc. Granted, I don't feel the blistering framerates of SP, but it is still very playable, never have felt any chugging of any kind on servers of 4-5 people. I'm sure if that number goes up, though, that's probably more of a concern. But hey... this game looks frikkin amazing, so I'm not complaining..

Amen to that. The more you play, the more you get into it. I've heard so many people say it, and have lived it. The game just gets better as you get alone. Bigger demons, bigger guns, bigger pleasure

Well i finished it today.

The ending wasnt real hard, or exciting for that matter. But it was cool. I wish they would have had a little more story at the end rather than 15 seconds of "hey hes alive... wheres betruger? ... RAR!.... *credits*".

I would do a whole review but instead, ill just give it an 8.5. The graphics didnt blow me away, neither did the sound, or the gameplay, or anything else for that matter. but it was still a good FPS game.

Not the sequel to Doom I hoped for, but a good FPS game on its own. I think i would have enjoyed this a lot more if i hadnt played it all before with Elite Force 2. The alien\demon enemies are basically identical in the two games(the sounds, monsters falling out of random places, jumping at you, shooting nasty stuff at you, slashing you). The scary scenes are the same (poorly lit areas, forcing you to use your lighting device, seeing monsters scurry around that disapear before you can shoot them, monsters feasting on people, lights turning off and monsters showing up). The "hmm i wonder if thats a hidden door" or "how do I get on top of that pedistal" exploration of Doom is GONE, instead replaced by the same thing that Elite Force 2 and many other games do(random, poorly hidden, predictable item stashes... which can still be fun, but it isnt Doom!). I know a lot of people will probably disagree, but I just feel like ive played this game before... the gameplay isnt original at all, and its not like Doom either.

Still good... just not Doom, or anything new.

I must say, the time between shots with the shotgun are a bit too long and lead to taking much unnecessary damage. The chaingun clip is also much too small and it takes a long time to reload it.

Hell, even the pistol takes a bit too long to reload.

I dont think so, the marine is just a human not a robot that reloads super fast, im not having any problems with it.

I'm talking about comparing it to other games. It seems like an eternity goes by between shots with the shotgun.
