It's amazing. The graphics hold up so damn well that I'm in total awe of the DOOM 3 team. The audio logs add so much, as well.

Great game.
Too repetitive and boring for me honestly.

I like the add-on much better.

If you immerse yourself in the game (read the audio logs, explore the world, and play on Veteran), then it's an amazing experience. Seriously, this game did not get the credit it was due.

The expansion pack was more "action packed" -- the combat was faster, there were more guns, the new artifact powers were pretty cool, etc., BUT it was shorter and there really wasn't that much of a story.

Play them both though -- they're both excellent games and make the price of the id pack worth it.

Ive always liked DooM3, played it first time on my 6600GT system, ran silky smooth and looked incredible. Have to replay it some day, awesome game If you want DooM1 gameplay, play DooM1, or Painkiller or Serious Sam. This is different.

QFT. Seriously, people wanted DOOM 3 to be DOOM 1 but the truth is, if you want that old DOOM action (WHICH F'ING ROCKS!), then you have:

The Ultimate DOOM
DOOM II
Final DOOM
Master Levels for DOOM II
Thousands upon thousands of downloadable levels for DOOM/DOOM II.

Just enjoy DOOM 3 for what it is

Indeed. Other than the flashlight alternating with the gun I thought Doom 3 was an amazing game and quite the immersive experience. It was a horror shooter though, slow-paced often and more about feeling inside the horror than blasting monsters. People who wanted Doom Again were not as happy.

Just finished the game. Found a lot of secrets and neat little things (like medical logs on the GUIs and so forth) that I missed the first few times through years ago. Amazing, amazing game. I have no idea how anyone could say it was bad. The detail that was put into the graphics, sound, weapons, and, yes, even the story (there were like a hundred PDAs with audio logs, e-mails, etc. and a ton of video disks).

Well freaking done, id.

Honestly, I'm so used to seeing the Doom3 engine via Quake4 that Doom3 seems... bland. There was just more detail in Quake 4- humans and aliens looked more natural and life like, they weren't shaped so... robotic.

Are there any mods for Doom 3 that fixes this?

I f*cking loved quake 4. Some of the scenes were very cool. The one that comes to mind is when the berserker rips through one of the doors and stabs one of the marines, blood splashing. Cool stuff.

Exactly! I know the Doom 3 engine is capable of a more natural and less "robot" look due to Quake 4. I'd imagine there must be a mod out there that adds this to Doom 3.

It'd make the game so much more immersive and enjoyable for me.
