madthumbs, I much prefer Mozilla to Opera, especially because it can correctly render pages that Opera cannot. It's just as fast as Opera on my own dialup connection and I like the interface a whole lot better.

The download manager that comes with it, however, I find to be highly suspect. You may want to pick up Flashget, DAP or similar program to help you cope with downloads.

I'm still really liking Avant Browser, however. It's not crashed my desktop and like previous versions have. It has the tabbing feature I want while still retaining the IE base.

The only bugger to Mozilla is the Bookmarking system. The IE favorites cannot be sorted by name like in IE. It totally sucks, that's why I don't use it. I voted it as a bbug. Please vote for it guys:

Well, you've seen Mozilla and Phoenix mentioned (both available at http://www.mozilla.org). There's also another freebie, built on the IE services, that has tabbed browsing, popup blocking, etc. Check it out at http://www.avantbrowser.com. It's a small (< 1MB) download. Almost as much of a memory hog as Mozilla, though. I like it for a lot of things, but Mozilla is still my main browser.

Cheers,

I like Mozilla now. Before I use to dislike it. The only reason I now use IE is because of Flash, RealPlayer, or Windows Media Player embbed plugins in web pages.

And, I found that Flash does not like to install on Phoenix 0.4, so just take this zip file and place its contents in C:\Phoenix\Plugins.

Flash and Quicktime, I think

Phoenix 0.4 is much better than 0.3. It's fast and pretty darn compatible. Just need to put the plugins (so kindly provided by SSC) in their appropriate place and snag some new themes and I'll be good to go. This is starting to look like everything I want in a web browser.

Opera 7.0b1 now available.

I'm hearing good things about it aside from some people having it crash after a few hours. One is that web pages appear to be properly displayed now.

-Faster
-New email client
-Improved standards support
-Now you can drag bookmarks
-Smaller size
-Sleek new look
-Multiple user support
-Combined MDI and SDI (tabbed vs non tabbed browsing)

Default Tried Opera 7 and...

still the same 'ol stuff. That browser for whatever reason cannot render this forum page correctly. Mozilla/Phoenix and IE work just fine. But in Opera, the divider that separates this forum's user name/location/avatar from their post doesn't go down in a straight line. If I hadn't uninstalled it I'd post a screen shot. Oh well, Phoenix is working just fine for me.
