6800GT not recognised in 6106 drivers?

I received my shiny new LeadTek 6800GT in the post yesterday and have now installed it into my new AMD64 system.

To cut a long story short, when I got it working, the system seemed really quite slow. Bitmap operations seemed to be suffering the most. I did some hunting and found this in my logs:

(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU detected as: Unknown

Also, /proc/driver/nvidia/cards shows this:
Model: Unknown
IRQ: 16
Video BIOS: ??.??.??.??.??
Card Type: AGP

lspci shows "0000:01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation: Unknown device 0045 (rev a1)", note the PCI ID (0x0045). The driver's README shows the driver in fact doesn't recognise that PCI ID.

Is there any hope for me in the near future? I don't want to wait ages to be able to fully utilise my rather expensive new toy.

Even though 1.0-6106 reports the 6800 GT as an Unknown card, it does recognize and support it. The next driver release will rectify the misreporting. Have you verified that AGP is enabled?

Ah, AGP wasn't enabled. I had an error message in dmesg about NVAGP being disabled due to IOMMU. I've compiled a new kernel* and I'll see how it behaves when I get home.

* There's nothing quite like rebooting a box remotely. Will it come back up, or just disappear into the void forever
