Arrow Doom 3 timedemo benchmark results thread

ok everyone, i know a lot of people have upgraded just to play this game... now here's your chance to show off what you've got

please post here your settings for doom, your benchmark results, and your system specs... along with any special tweaks you may have applied

in order to benchmark doom, just hit control+alt+` (` is the key left of the 1) to pull down the console in the main menu, then type:
Code:
timedemo demo1
settings for doom:
high quality
1280x1024 res.
4xaa

benchmark results:
2148 frames rendered in 97.5 seconds = 22.0FPS

system specs:
athlon xp2500 o/c to xp3200
fx5900u flashed to fx5950u @ 620/1022
512mb pc3200 kingston hyperx dual channel ram @ 2-2-2-6

TIP: if you would like to have a permanent console without having to always use ctrl+alt+`, right click on your shortcut to d3 and click properties.. edit the path to add +set com_allowconsole 1 at the end; like so:

"C:\Program Files\Doom 3\Doom3.exe" +set com_allowconsole 1

1280x1024

High Quality, default settings (0xFSAA,8xAF)

45.7 fps

edit: This was on the first run while it was still caching so I'm gonna run it again after work and show the second time. The average FPS during the demo was actually around 70 fps or so.

XP3200+ 6800Ultra/400@1100, High Quality, 4xAA/8xAF
46.1 FPS
For 512MB ram users, it's better to benchmark 2 times so that the data can be efficiently cached.

Yup 991060 is right....same with me..i disregarded the first run as it seems to stutter a lot in the first run. I did 3 runs to get an average.

991060: what res did u use?

1280x1024 0xAA 8xAF = 77.6FPS @ High Quality
1280x1024 4xAA 8xAF = 52.9FPS @ " "

1600x1200 0xAA 8xAF = 66.5FPS @ High Quality
1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF = 39.9FPS @ " "

1280x1024 2xAA 8xAF = 59.4FPS @ High Quality

I've been playing the game up till now with 1280x1024 with 2xAA and 4xAF, but looking at these numbers that I just produced I'm think 1600x1200 with 0xAA and 8xAF may be better. What do you guys think? I don't really want a less than 60FPS average. At the moment the minimum FPS I get is around 40FPS.

Anyway, these are all repeat results taken from the second run on each setting. A restart of Doom3 was done between each setting change (obviously).

640x480 1xAF Med - 48.9
640x480 2xFSAA Med - 48.2

800x600 4xAF Med - 46.9
800x600 1xAF Med - 48.2

1024x768 1xAF Med - 42.2

GeforceFX5800 (@485/970), Athlon 2100xp, 512mb PC2100, nForce2 Epox 8RDA+

(NOTES: Loses 10fps in real game when firing weapons, takes seconds to recover the frame rate. High quality is not much slower than medium, but swaps to HDD regularly due to 512mb RAM.)

Edit: Tested on 2nd system

640x480 1xAF High - 28.6
640x480 1xAF Med - 34.0
800x600 1xAF Med - 23.9

Radeon 9800se, Intel P4 2.8ghz, 1gb PC3200, Asus Intel chipset MB

Drops to 35 from 60fps when firing plasma at a wall, recovers quickly. (eg. While still decaled.)

I benched using fraps... the game appears to be capped @ 60fps when I was playing and benching hence i didn't use the time-demo...

I'm gonna run the timedemo and post my results though for comparisons sake...

ti4200 (128mb) 800x600 medium quality = 24.3 fps
1024x768 = 17.5 fps

that's with all effects on, excluding the heat-haze obviously.
