I am having the same probs but i can't run any OpenGL games at all (not even in an un-stable way)
P4 2.4Ghz AGP4x 1Gb DDR RAM ASUS Nvidia V9999 6800 Ultra (upgraded from a GF4 Ti 4600) OS Mandrake 10 Official (2.6 kernel) using 6111 drivers (also tried prev version - same thing) X runs fine Tried Americas Army, UT2004, UT - all the same - get a black screen and whole machine hangs. (not even caps lock light works) - I do get the ut2004 splash screen though glxgears works and so do GL screen savers. checked ASUS web site - no BIOS updates available. I am really pissed ! No only did I spend the equiv of a new machine on this card, i also had to fork out for a 500w power supply. I was also about to fork out for a new motherboard to get the AGP 8x, but though i had better get it working first. Anyone have suggestions for what else to try ? If not, i may have to kill myself ![]() Last edited by e-gore; 09-09-04 at 11:58 PM. |

i was just wondering if anyone played Wolf:ET yet, i have a 6800gt and haven't had time to reconfig my linux drive (came from 9800pro), seeing as how thats practically the only linux game i play and its completely free, i was wondering if anyone has played it yet with 6800 and 6111 drivers

I haven't messed with the Enemy Territory expansion, but RtCW plays nicely (when it runs). Smoother running on my 6800U than on my Ti 4600, with the exception that it always runs with the Ti 4600 in the system and with the 6800U sometimes runs and sometimes locks up. The Ti4600 was good at 1280x1024 at near maxed settings, the 6800U likes 1600x1200 with all maxed (again, when it runs rather than locks on the way in...). The drivers need work for the 6800 series cards, we should see a new driver (they need to get the 6600 series in anyway...) soon, hopefully they will improve the situation. If Pixar upgraded the GPUs in their workstations maybe this would be a higher priority... I was spoiled with the stability with my Ti 4600, with the 6800U I'm wearing out the reset button any time I try to run anything OpenGL.
If the card weren't so expensive, the temptation to do a little tinkering with a 4 pound sledgehammer would be difficult to resist... ![]() Last edited by DeLorean; 09-08-04 at 02:07 PM. |

I get horrible freezing with my 6800GT here too.. Sometimes, it'll freeze continuously boot after boot after boot loading KDE. Other times, it'll run for hours at a time running SETI@home and OpenGL apps. Seems like a driver issue to me. Hope one comes along sometime soon...

My Ultra 6800 have been running for 9 days now, 2D and 3D applications. Gainward's latest BIOS did the trick.
I have seen people in the Windows world that has had problems like this. One solution has been to overclock the 2D frequency to be equal to the 3D frequency. For example, if your 2D clock is set at 400 Mhz, and your 3D clock is set to 425 Mhz, they have changed the 2D clock to 425 Mhz. That has resulted in a much more stable system. But I guess that we are not blessed with any tool to do stuff like that here in our Linux world... Regards, holoman |
