Have you tried OpenGL on 2000? In fact, have you tried any real games at all on it?

I ain't gonna twist your arm, I mean use what you like, but one benchmark does not a bad operating system make.

XP is just as fast as 98 nowadays for all intents and purposes. come one people, it's time to move on. all the nice leaked beta drivers always come out for XP first

Here's my bloody summary:

Windows XP - good if you have a 1 GHz+ PC and 512 MB RAM. Essentially all new PCs.

Windows 2000 - good if you have a 500 - 1GHz and 256 MB RAM. Games compatibility sucks with some titles, like the Need For Speed games, specifically 4 and 5.

Windows 98 - a good choice for those systems like above for Windows 2000 and want game compatibility.

Windows ME - like 98, if it works well for you use it, if it doesn't use 98 or 2000.

Windows 95 - it was good for us using Pentiums or lower, its completely useless now.

Hour ago I've installed XP.4850 3D marks - not bad at all for system with much more stability than 98.... perhaps xp was not tweaked right way on previous installation.

Real openGL perfomance? I'm not fool, I have benchmarked every system with 3dmark+Q3Arena+DooM III. 3D mark scores are clear to understand to all, so I'm writing them here.

SPEED:
98SE->[95 - outdate & doesnot supports anything]->Windows XP->98->2000>Me>NT4
STABILITY:
Windows 2000->XP->NT4->9x/Me...

That's it.Now i've got multiboot - Redhat 7.2/XP/98, so I'm working in XP and playing in 98....
And, yeah, I've turned off that awful new XP interface.

but they don't reflect real performance across games.

WinXP is way better than 98 will ever be because it's a pure 32-bit OS. Say what you will, it is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH.

And Win98 don't have no stinkin' NTFS, either.

What it comes down to is that MAYBE you "lose" 50 3DMarks (but that can just be a variable in testing), but you gain stability, compatibility with everything, and did I mention the stability?

Pfft, NTFS.

Only important if you really need/want the security features. Most people can get by with FAT32. Of course with larger hard disks sizes looming, NTFS may be the only choice.

If you want to run a RAID-0 array with anything larger than 10 gb HD's, your only choice is NTFS. Once the Linux folks figure out a way to write files downloaded in Linux to NTFS partitions, there will be no more reasons to use FAT32.

Besides, every single OEM PC you can buy with Windows XP is formatted with NTFS. It's the only logical choice for Windows 2000 and higher machines IMO.

everything is being optimized for xp. if its not faster than 98se right now, it will be down the road.
