in my opinion, the only reason cs is popular is because it works on everyones computer, it gives the best amount of graphics, the crappiest computer can give you, which is fine, but its not fair to other game makers making awesome online games, like call of duty, quake 3, Ut2004, RTCW, Nolf2 etc.. because they might require a higher end pc (not nessicarly talking about quake 3 requirements of course.) thats is the only reason this game is popular (and thats its based on a susposedly awesome game called half-life w/e) Cam9786 is someone who adores this and is deciated to make people believe in his vision of the game, and the new one coming out.

I wasn't impressed by those screenshots. They didn't look very good. Hopefully the final product looks much better.

is it just me, or does dx suck? LOL. i do admit, from seeing the e3 video that the shading and water are very impressive. but why the hell cant they make the textures look "realistic"? i mean, doom3 textures look real enough, but every directx game i've seen (ut2003/4, unreal2, nolf, etc) look like a cartoon, candy textures as my friend would say.

No, not really. Wasn't that starwars RPG opengl? UT2004 for linux uses opengl... And neverwinter nights perhaps? The native to linux version has to be opengl...

Ok i played this today ata cafe 20 minutes from me.

Looks much beter IN game.

Has bump and spec displacement and some sweet physics.

Looks like a port of CS to source basically with some impressive 3d skyboxes enahnced texturing and some higher poly maps.

I think the major differnece between valve and most other developers is this:
Most developers tend to showcase technology so you CANT miss it
Valve puts it where its needed and thats it

Example: rust with lotsa specularity = not needed
Valve rust = partial spec / partial difuse.

My 2 cents
although I must admit extra eye candy is always nice

What were the PC specs at the PC Cafe and how did it run? I hope my comp will be able to handle it smoothly. Right now, it lags in some parts of aztec on CS 1.6 -.-

Well I thought it looked quite good. That's the blandest map ever, but if you look at stuff in detail, its not really all that low in poly count where it counts... the models look reasonable and the textures look like good quality too.

It doesn't look like FarCry or Doom3, but I still think it looks good. Oh and whoever was playing, did they put AF off because that is what is making it look really bad.

Still looking forward to it. They need some new maps!
