Default nvidia driver won't use 1280x1024 ("greater than EDID-specified maximum")

Hi folks. My current setup is:

Fedora Core 2
Geforce FX 5700/256
Official Nvidia drivers, v. 1.0-6106
X is config'd for 1280x1024x24

I've been having this problem for years, since running Mandrake 8.0 with my Geforce2mx. I'm only now bothering to do anything about it.

Anyway, here's the problem: Running X without loading the nvidia driver I can do 1280x1024 with no problem. However, once I use the nvidia driver I can't get above 1024x768. I looked in Xorg.0.log and have pasted the interesting bits below. The first several messages make it look like my monitor just doesn't support 1280x1024, but it does work when I'm not using nvidia's driver. Also, just to be sure, I changed the monitor from its actual setting (Nanao F2-17) to a generic 1280x1024 CRT, so the h/vsync should support that res. Further down, though, I see messages like these, which I haven't seen before:

Could this be the root of my problem? Can someone please tell me what this means?

Try putting

Code:
Option      "IgnoreEDID" "on"
on the "Device" (videocard) section of xorg.conf. Some monitors lie about their capabilities and some others are wrongly interpreted by the drivers. It is not that common but it happens.

Whenever new nvidia drivers come out remove that line and see if it works (6106 were the first ones where I didn't need that line for my TFT to work ok).
