Heya!
Of course can you use FreeBSD 5.2.1 with your NVidia card on amd64. The only drawback is, that the available drivers (i tested vesa and nv from X.org 6.8) are *not* hardware-accelerated, which means you wouldn't be able to play p.e. quake3 with an acceptable framerate. My suggestion is to wait for FreeBSD 5.3, which will "hit stores" on about 10th October 2004. I think when 5.3's out, NVidia will released amd64 drivers soon. (If you think you can do it, try cvsupping the RELENG_5 branch which will allow you to use a Beta version of 5.3. These betas are already in a nearly-stable state imho; use it if you want to have a look at 5.3) regards, kpanic |

Hey zander, I have a similar config to hishnik.
Here is what happens: I can set it to use NvAgp, or no AGP, and either way the sysctls and the xorg.log file both don't have anything about AGP getting enabled, other than the fact that the NvAgp option was set to use nvidia's internal agp support. Other than the fact that AGP isn't getting enabled, Everything works fine. Just a little slower than I'd expect for a couple of games (significantly slower than windows, but still accelerated). When I try to use FreeBSD's AGP, and set all the options to match, I can see in the log (upon reboot) that AGP was enabled in the xorg.log, but the machine hangs hard... I can't even ssh to the machine to reboot it. I tried using FreeBSD's AGP with acpi and apic disabled, and with just acpi, and with just apic, and no matter what the result is the same. I've just been running without AGP for the time being, but I think that the driver just doesn't have support for my AGP chipset yet. I have a GeForce FX 5900, Athlon 64 3200+ (running in FreeBSD/i386, 32-bit), 1GB of Corsair RAM, asus k8v deluxe mobo. This uses the Via k8t800 chipset I believe (I might have that wrong, but it's the via chipset that's meant for socket 754 athlon 64's). Anyway, any idea if the driver will support this chipset on its next release? |

Yes, K8T800 support is planned for a future driver release.

I get the following message whenever X starts:
"NVRM: Detected agp.ko, aborting NVidia AGP setup!". I have been unable to get the video out working through the CRT port in my laptop as well. In the last drivers it worked perfectly with a similar (if not the same) configuration in the Xconfig file: Quote:
My computer is a toshiba 5205- s503 satellite laptop, and it has TV-OUT and CRT-OUT ports. I've also tried to get a Nvidia 2 MX 400 working in a desktop computer but it just turns the screen off when starting X. Am I doing something wrong? is it the Beta? (BTW I disabled the SMP kernel options because otherwise both machines would freeze when starting X) Thanks in advance |

I tried this driver on another machine, with a GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X and the intel 845G (supposed to be supported by the nvidia driver's internal agp). I think there may be a bug here because I'm seeing this in the sysctl:
kaoru:~:> dmesg | grep nvidia nvidia0: <GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X> mem 0xf0000000-0xf7ffffff,0xfc000000-0xfcffffff irq 16 at device 0.0 on pci1 nvidia0: [GIANT-LOCKED] kculver@kaoru:~:> sysctl | grep nvidia usage: sysctl [-bdehNnox] variable[=value] ... sysctl [-bdehNnox] -a kculver@kaoru:~:> sysctl -a | grep nvidia nvidia 339 642K 642K 1159 16,32,64,128,256,512,1024,2048,4096 hw.nvidia.agp.card.rates: 4x 2x 1x hw.nvidia.agp.card.fw: supported hw.nvidia.agp.card.sba: not supported hw.nvidia.agp.card.registers: 0x1f000017:0x00000000 hw.nvidia.agp.status.status: disabled hw.nvidia.agp.status.driver: n/a (unused) hw.nvidia.agp.status.rate: n/a (disabled) hw.nvidia.agp.status.fw: n/a (disabled) hw.nvidia.agp.status.sba: n/a (disabled) I don't have agp compiled into the kernel nor do I have agp.ko loaded. The driver also doesn't complain about any trouble initializing the agp. IT just doesn't work. Any ideas? |

Anyone knows, if/when support for something like the "windows powermizer" is planned ifor FreeBSD? (I have FreeBSD 5.2, nvidia1.0.6113 and nvidia-settings installed).
All I found so far is that powermizer does clock down the card, and (explicitly/implicitly) puts it in low voltage. So maybe its less a dirver more an application issue. In which case anyone an idea, if something like this exists, or what would need to be done? |

Try using one of the other configurator programs. xf86cfg is the graphical program that gives some people problems. There is a text based program that will create a config file for you, but I cant remember the name. I'm running xorg and the name is different.
