The latest Nforce drivers for linux seems to be very cool so i have tryed to install them.
I run the installer and it builds the two modules without problem at the correct place. I modify modules.conf and modprobe.conf to reflex the new names of the modules driver for the ethernet and the APU. And when i reboot the nvnet module installs successfully without any error, but the nvsound module simply freezes the computer when modprobed. To correct the problem i went to bios in search of a PNP option as said in documentation but i don't have one in my Abit NF7-S V2 latest bios(Nforce2-400Ultra). I have removed all specials actions i had in modprobe.conf for the precedent driver and it continues to freeze. The acpi is loaded and working may it be the problem or have i to rebuild the kernel with special options? Please if someone knows the solution to the freeze let me know it. ok fighted a little and i can give theese infos in regard to my problem:
Kernel is a mandrake 2.6.3-15mdk non modified. I load the nvsound module without freezing if i disable acpi via bios or via lilo option. I get some sound but i have poor vidéo performance with 6106 that works very well normally and after some minutes of play the computer freezes. When i dmesg i get theese messages that claims that module nvsound is problematic to kernel: nvnet: no version for "struct_module" found: kernel tainted. nvnet: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel. Try passing the kernel boot parameters 'acpi=off' and 'noapic' .
If you use Grub you need to edit the file grub.conf (/boot/grub/grub.conf on my system) and add the above to the line specifying the kernel. I had similiar problem and it got corrected when i turned off acpi and apic. Does anybody know how i can create the center channel and LFE for stereo files under linux. The win driver provides and option to create these channels artificially. I could not find any such option under linux. Or is there any plugin for xine/ xmms/ mplayer/ etc that may create the center channel artificially from stereo files? Tanveer
