Wasnt it just.

4 player split screen on one comp and you could all play Co-Op. Games today always miss these basic elements.

wow, someone actually thinks Serious Sam 2's engine is better than Doom 3's.

and I thought people were out of their minds saying CryEngine and Source were superior to Doom 3's engine.

I love the serious sam games however.

Did I say that ? Did I specificly say the engine is "better" then the D3 one. I dont believe so. I said it looks better not that it was, and other then the demo I linked to, Serious Engine 2 is still premature.

But to satisfy your post, yes it is better even thou I have never played a game with an engine that is not even out yet.

I guess you should make 6 threads now, asking people if they think ss 2's engine "looks nicer" than the cryengine and source.

SS2 is going to rock. I absolutely love the first two Sams and have been fiending ever since it was announced. According to Croteam, we'd be lucky to get the game this year, although it is possible.

Ok, I'm done. Sorry!

Back on topic though, I've never had the chance to try serious sam, but it sounds like a neat game, from the sound of you all.

Jeez this topic is ridiculous. Serious Sam is basically Painkiller. Can you not see how difficult it would be to add co-op in Doom3? It would have no scripted sequences, since it would be pratically impossible, that means less scare factor... which is what the game is based around. Im glad it has no co-op so they didn't have to dumb down the singleplayer experience with just hordes of enemies... a la SS2, Painkiller.

Both are great games, but nowhere near Doom3. Not to mention the grapics in Serious Sam 2 while are ok, are nothing in comparision to doom3. Have you seen the Serious Sam 2 demo movie? Making a game with millions of enemies with no A.I running at you is too easy. id could have done that if they wanted, but they chose the Half-Life style approach. A good choice IMO. The ss2/Painkiller are fun for about the first couple hours, but its all the same after a while.

SS2 is gonna have 3Dc support for ATi cards though.. I guess thats kinda cool.

hahaha that made my day

Anyways the engine is nice but lets be a little bit realistic here. In the movies it seemed like the only thing that had offset mapping was the character models.

Painkiller is basically Serious Sam, since Painkiller was released after Serious Sam

No, but I will take a guess. About as easy as it is to remove the co-op altogether. Lets be honest here, it was ment to have coop, it was planed, thats fact. The idea to remove it for PC and keep it for Xbox is stupid.

They wouldnt of had to dumb down anything. The other friendly player could always kill what stupidly spawns behind you.

Yes I have thank you. Visually it looks more impressive then anything I have seen this year. I wouldnt link to a demo video, give an opinion and not watch it, and I am sorry to say this, but when Serious Sam 2 comes out, Doom 3 will not even come close to it in terms of playability.

Scripted sequences... as in the cutscenes, triggers, such as imps crawling down walls, dead bodies floating, etc. The Xbox is a different game. Why do you think id would not add it to the pc? Everybody wants it.... reason is its too difficult. It just would not work. There is a mod for doom3 out right now. It just doesnt work with the scripted sequences, etc. You cannot guarantee that the players are gonna be in the exact same area at the exact same time. The other player is gonna miss out on the scarefactor and scripted sequences, which is what doom3 is based around.

The original Half-Life does not have co-op. Why doesnt anyone complain? Its the same deal here.

Could you link to that .plan file update? Cause, IIRC, Doom 3 PC has never had co-op planned for it. I do remember hearing that the contractor that is porting it to the Xbox is adding co-op, but this is most likely because Microsoft requires that the Xbox version of games that are ported have some sort of Xbox-only content. Again, that's IIRC.

Why the hostility?
