This thread comes across as flame bait to me.

That would be like me telling someone "Hey Dufus, take your fat ***** girlfriend home, here comes my sexy mate!"

You dont need the cutscenes thou. The original Serious Sam played the Co-Op in a way where the cutscenes were not played. Its just always nice to have a choice, we shouldnt have to leave it upto the fans to make a coop mod.

BTW. There is Co-Op for Half Life. Once again its a mod, but it exists. Now if you take the PS2 version, there is a coop mode in that. The story is not the same as the main game, but you can play with a friend thru a storyline together. Co-Op is not impossible, its not new, and it shouldnt have to be done as a mod.

Even Project Eden had Co-Op (but thats another thread)

Anyway to wrap this up (because I dont intend to flame with anyone Im to old for all that, Serious Sam 2, its on its way. Im looking forward to it. Go get playing the original people...

slyder, honestly as far as basic rendering that video was not more advanced than far cry or d3.

In fact it sorta reminded me of a little bit of what makes doom 3 nice(minus some candy) and far cry nice(minus some candy). Now if the root of your arguement is on gameplay 'fun' you may be right. But if it's on a technology aspect, and this thing don't come out for over a year than its dated technology wise.

People have already modded off set mapping into d3
1.3 for far cry offers a serious(no pun intended) amount of sweet dx9 features.

Technology speaking yes the engine is nice. But like I said previously lets be a little bit realistic. If offset mappign can be modded into the d3 engine this fast and with such a small download. Imagine the things mod develoeprs will be doing with doom 3 in the long term picture. Off set mapping being one of the 'main' selling points of SS2, besides the draw distance/LoD.

Again if your arguement is that the game will be 'funner' gameplay wise you might be right.

Comeon, this is ridiculous...

Why do people keep saying "Doom 3 eat your heart out, X is coming"
Now change that X with:
1. Unreal Engine 3
2. Duke Nukem Forever
3. Serious Sam 2
and so on...

People are really playing "Master of the Obvious" in these days, ofcause the future engines are going to look better than Doom 3, but fact is we now have access to Doom 3, there is still at least another good year before we can get our hands on many of those mentioned titles

With that said, i can fully understand if you're exited about a Serious Sam sequel, I'm just a little tired ofthese kind of "This nexgen game will totally blow Doom 3 away" topics

What the hell? You sound like Hellbinder talking about the X800 6 months before it was released.

Im glad it has no co-op so they didn't have to dumb down the singleplayer experience with just hordes of enemies... a la SS2, Painkiller.

Both are great games, but nowhere near Doom3. Not to mention the grapics in Serious Sam 2 while are ok, are nothing in comparision to doom3. Have you seen the Serious Sam 2 demo movie? Making a game with millions of enemies with no A.I running at you is too easy. id could have done that if they wanted, but they chose the Half-Life style approach. A good choice IMO. The ss2/Painkiller are fun for about the first couple hours, but its all the same after a while.
Yes, the topic is ridiculous. But this should be taken as a compliment for D3 as it is now the standard, at least for indoor environments.

Painkiller is basically SS, not the other way around.

I do find it funny that SS2/PK are fun for only a couple of hours while Doom 1 & 2 kept us entertained for years. For every fan of the slow paced fps, there is one for the twitchy fps as well. Some people find thousands of enemies coming at you monotonous while others find wandering dark hallways boring - to each his own. You'll never convince a fan of one to like the other better. Doom 3 is an absolutely great game (9/10 for me), but it will likely not get even 10% as much playing time as the previous Sams on my pc.

I like both styles.

This coop mode in serious sam... Does it have to be split screen or can two people connect via LAN and have their own machine?

Its comments like this which really show how little you know about games. PainKiller is basically SeriousSam. I doubt Painkiller was even in development when the second encounter was released...

Thank you so much thou, reading that has literally made my night

Both I am pleased to say. I usually set a server up, my better half connects via the LAN and my friends connect via the internet.

The comment I made meant that PK plays very similarly to SS, which was out first. In other words, PK copied Sam's style of gameplay. I think that perhaps it's a little late and you're not thinking straight.

When you can finish the Grand Cathedral (last level in SS:SE) on the highest difficulty (invisible/flashing enemies) on one life then you can lecture me on playing games. Until then, please go practice both your gaming & the basic understanding of the English language.
