actually, i just saw the video, and i have to say, its impressive... compared to the original serious sam engine. it should be really fun to play, as long as gameplay remains more or less the same. imho the two major things the serious engine had going for them, and what made the game so fun, was 1. the ability to create huge maps with little impact on frame rates and 2. the ability to spawn craploads of enemies at the same time, again withouth a major performance hit. graphically, ss engine 2 isnt that impressive compared to fc or d3 (or hl2, heehee), it just some more eye candy than the first engine. howver, i liked the new physics and improved animation, and would love to play some coop on that.

Slyder, your antagonistic approach is only helping this thread deteriorate... Now maybe if you made some feature charts, and presented some screenies, and spoke more like "In my opinion..." instead of "b1@h!! XX pwnz0rz YY cuZ 1 53d 50!!!1", then maybe there wouldnt be so much static...

In light of this, I feel it would be in all of our best interest if some daring soul would start a thread with a title something like "new engine comparison" that features most of the newer engines, and compares the graphical features, and makes proper reference to their respective API's...

Sorry slyder but your tone aggravates me and others. Chill out. Yes the engine's good. And yes many of us wish for SS's split screen stuff...

It's hard to deteriorate from where it began. He's just trying to start a flame war.

note to slyder: you should try and get your facts correct before starting a flame war. Otherwise it just makes you sound when you are bashing others for their lack of knowledge.

LOL, slyder, no offense buddy, but you sound like a real tool.

You basically are screaming DOOM3 isn't being "showcased" over at MS.

Then someone cleverly (yet, obviously) points out to you that it is an OpenGL game.

Microsoft (Duh) knows this. They aren't going to give them any support.

DirectX is only for the input as stated.

You kinda didn't have a comeback after that one, did ya?

I've played the Serious Sams, and let me tell you.

It is darn right fun as hell.

But let me tell you something else.

An hour or 2 of this and it DOES get boring.

I've played it at large lans, small lans, it does get boring after a whle.

It may seem "new" to a lot of people but eventually, you wanna play something else.

As for the engine being more advanced? After some of your posts I don't really feel you know just what you're talking about when it comes to engines.

All these doom3 threads make people think they are an expert on engines and whatnot.

Keep blabbin' away on how SS2 will be so much better than Doom3.

It's all opinion, right?

sheesh. everything is going to be better than doom3 it seems.

I love the serious sam games however.
Yes but then I remember reading a thread where you said the (as yet unfinished and unreleased) Unreal3 engine was equalled by CryEngine. Maybe you shouldn't be throwing those huge boulders from the confines of your glass house? :P

Look I'm new here but I think I need to clarify this. DOOM 3 XBOX is NOT (I repeat) not an id product. Vicarious Visions (of THUG fame) did the port, the engine is id's, the game art, netcode, models and co-op are all exlusive to XBOX. It's not a PC and the game wasn't written by id for XBOX. You can't complain that id "took it out" of the PC version. It wasn't IN the PC version to begin with. Chinese whispers always end up like this. People here one rumour about ONE version of ONE game and they start to fantasise and apply said rumour to many versions of MANY games.

Bottom line : You don't know what you're on about. :P
