Can someone please help me with this? Latest Q3a version using 61.72 on GF6800GT no compressed textures and max details. Win XP pro patched with all official service packs and DX9b.
Sorry, missed this, try setting r_fastsky 0 and r_ext_compressed_textures 0 in the console. The 6800GT can handle Quake3 textures uncompressed, no problem.

Man now it seem's like there should be a quake 4.

There was an app that replaced the S3TC calls with DXT3. Good luck finding it now, though there is no reason to compress textures with a 6800GT.

I don't think it would work anyway, since he mentioned "Quake3 textures uncompressed".

Sorry, had some issues with my new external hard drive (was crashing Explorer) plus one of my buddies came over and we were watching anime.

Anyway, to answer the Quake 3 thing my system had no issues with the sky. Clean install of the game patched to 1.32, running at 1600x1200, 4x AA, 8x AF, no changes to the config file.

Spotch, I would recommend deleting your q3config.cfg file and letting the game rebuild it. That'll reset everything back to default and most likely fix your problem.

Glad its fixed.

Try Q3A at 16x12 with 8xS AA and 16X AF. Your jaw will drop when you first run through given what settings we used back when the game came out.

I remember playing the beta test at 640x480, 16-bit on my PII 400/Voodoo Banshee and thinking it was the greatest thing ever.

Personally, though, I find Unreal Gold to be more impressive looking overall at the maximum resolution/AA/AF settings. Since I've gotten the game to work perfectly in OpenGL, it's simply mind-blowing compared to the hardware we played these games on back when 3dfx was king.

2048x1536 is my resolution of choice now and 8xaf has been locked on for every game since my 9700 pro 2 years ago.

The purpose of the stress test, IMHO, is to make sure that the engine functions properly on different flavors of hardware and all of the features on the rendering engine do as they should to produce the desired atmosphere. That's it.

Glad there are other folks saying this. Cheers to you for laying down the law....or the word...or something.
