I think we've well and truly reached a point now where modern games look like (or better than) the CG of the mid 90s

It would be so cool if they could pull off those motion blurs in that trailer during the game. They give such a sense of realism to it.

Yeah, i hope its like 1 and 2. TDR 2000 sucked bad. The tracks seemed cramped and irritating. I still think the best part of the Carmageddon games was exploring the levels.
The underground military base (complete with nazis) at the school campus, the aircraft carrier with the hidden lower decks, powerups stuck on the roofs of buildings... awesome stuff

BTW, id love to see the "Giant Mutant Tail Thing" flying around with a modern physics engine. I cant wait

Also, my brother and I have been watching Flat Out for months... I cant wait to play this. I hope it has good multiplayer options on the PC. It seems the XBox version will have 4 player split screen and 8 player XBox live... but god knows what that means for the PC version. It probably wont have any multiplayer because MS said so

How cool would it be if EA made a mock up NFSU using the Flat Out engine?

Well, a real blur effect would be awesome. Other games just do a trail effect to simulate a motion blur effect and look like crap. So there hasn't been a game that could do a true motion blur like seen in those added effects for the video. If they could do it, 24fps would look as smooth a video. Though, doing a quick twitch turn in something like quake 3 would be a big blur, compared to rendering enough frames fast enough to make it appear smooth.

A good example of a blur is in the Rthdrbl or whatever demo. The spinning spheres have a nice realtime blur, but the more fps you have the less noticable it is because the position of each object in the next frame has a shorter distance between each other for the blur to be spread across.

Faster movement widens that gap and the blur fills it in. That's why without motion blurs, games look choppy at low fps compared to motion film that's silky smooth at 24fps.

It would be cool if someone redid that Destruction Derby game originally on the Playstation. It has some crazy maps with canyon races where roads were were almost a roller coaster. You'd be high up and suddently go down a steep road, near vertial, several 100 feet. And at the top at one side of the road had a bump, if you hit that you'd be flying down it. There was also that huge destruction arena shaped like a bowl for destruction. Man that game was fun. You actually drove in reverse the whole time in the destruction arena to avoid engine damage.
