Argh guys I need some help. I've gone through all the NVIDIA driver archives, tried the latest Wine and Cedega and still my games are running at about 1fps.
My xorg.config is fine and glxinfo shows hardware opengl enabled. I am completely stumped. Both Doom 3 and GTA-VC have this problem. Any ideas? |

I'm not sure whether this will help you. I just installed a Nv GF-FX5700 in this system here. And I ran the glxgears on it (Previous card was a GF4 MX440), and it only showed 80-85fps (On the MX440 it showed at least 750+fps) I used the Nvidia-settings tool, and changed the sync to VBlank in the OpenGL tab to disable (No Tick). And now it's showing over 2900fps (Which is around what I'd expected) In some cases doing this helps to boost the fps's. Although I have no idea as to what system you have, AMD/Intel & Speed, video card etc. But this should still help you a bit.

Using GLGears I average 1500 FPS. Settings options in NVIDIA-settings makes NO difference to the FPS score. This leads me to believe that I'm running OpenGL in software, but glxinfo shows the NVIDIA card and direct rendering=yes.
All my games are piss-poor slow, less than 1FPS. I've tried Cedega and Wine both with same problems on multiple games. Help, any ideas how I can test OpenGL hardware acceleration is on?? |

well i don't know about GTA but doom 3 will of course run slow. the game has such high system requirements its crazy. I have a fx 5900xt and i have to run it on 800x600 on medium detail (high works but gets choppy) on a AXP2400+. I just can't wait for the native binaries....it'll speed it up so much.

Typing 'glxinfo' on a command line, will tell you if it's running in hardware mode. You should see a line that say's 'direct rendering: Yes'. Also make sure that the output all points to and mentions Nvidia and not 'Mesa". If there is any mesa stuff in the output, then your running Software GL. And you will need to fix the library symlinks to fix it. (Some where in this forum mentions how that's done)
