Default fx5600 dual monitor support???

whenever i plug in my second monitor into my dvi port. both monitors have power but display nothing. they go into sleep mode. i can get each one to work on there own. but nothing can work out of the dvi. i'm using a DVI to VGA connector but i can't get anything to work on that dvi port at all it's very annoying. when i plug the othe rmonitor in both shut off...i figure i must be missing something simple. thanks in advance...

I have the 5600 ultra, and works with dual monitors, are you sure that dual monitors are supported by your card? The 5600 was a middle of the range card and might not have support, that might explain why your monitors shut off. Do a search to see if the card supports it, sounds like it might not.
